eriksson, Vanek, stewart, yakupov, bobby ryan, Briere... and then Erat, J Jokinen as plan C's or D's as teams trying to dump salary for close to nothing just to see if they wouldn't click with spezza kind of like the latendresse experiment.
Burmistrov might be brought in on a side deal but that's not 1st line . I also wonder if we do end up trading Cowen(i hope not) if they wouldn't take look at Kulikov from Fla. I'd be really happy if we could pry Bogo out of Winnipeg somehow.

I think Briere would be a great addition to the 3rd line, PP, able to move up into the top-six. As a small player with success at the NHL level he would be a great mentor to our smurfs. But riding shotgun on Spezza's line full-time? Not sure.
Vanek is great offensively, and is a nice, big body. Does he play a hard style though? Will he clear space for Spezza? Same question about everyone else, actually. Spezza doesn't hit -- he dangles. Michalek kinda hits. Need someone with size and not afraid to use it -- that's why I was concerned with Silfverberg there. He might eventually grow into that kind of player but he certainly isn't there yet.

laugh all you want but if they part with one of the 3 young wingers he might be it, on top of it we'd have the pieces to do it. i'd imagine it be cowen + zib and our 1st for yak and a second rounder.
Flo The Action wrote:i'd like some vanek please but i'm not sure what the price would be. our 1st rounder for sure, then a young prospect and a NHL player is my guess

I would consider that a pretty big overpayment. Oilers need Cowen more than they need Yakupov. Heck, *we* need Cowen more than we need Yakupov. What we need is what Yakupov has the potential to become. We need a 30+ goal scorer, not someone who may eventually get to that level.
wprager wrote:Of course he would, but I would still prefer a bigger body on that line to create space. Briere could, of course, move up if necessary.
So we tried Silfverberg up there, albeit very briefly, how about Zibanejad? He may not be as creative, but he's got more moves than, say, Fisher, and if that pre-season game against the Bruins last year is any indication, he's got a wicket one-timer. We've got Spezza, Turris, Pageau, Smith down the middle; Zibby will have to play the wing.

Yeah...I almost half expect Murray to leave the forwards alone until the deadline. I guess it depends on what the prices are in trade and if he likes anything in UFA. If we came back with the exact roster we did last year, but hoped for health, is it that bad a move? Only time will tell to see if Murray goes all in for a D-man and leaves the forwards as is, or what.
