the only part i don't like is they trade a guy that singed for 4 years only after a season and a half. truthfully I think that sounds the wrong message... but I guess it wasn't bergevin's team then.

cole wanted to leave.

Didn't like being on the third line? He's a bit of a wildcard at this point. He basically threatened to quit after they signed the new CBA. I won't be surprised if he retires before his contract is done.

Didnt want his kids taught in french.

You are still forced to learn French and the culture itself. Dumb decision on his part but one he wasn't happy with non the less.

I think bunghole are in every provinces. there's plenty of anti-francophone sentiments outside of Quebec to embarrass anyone. unfortunately we can't exile all village idiots somewhere where they can learn tolerance and the beauty of diversity.

I took it until grade nine. It isn't taught very well in schools in Ontario (at least in my elementary and high schools). You can't learn to speak a language by conjugating verbs all day every day.

I took it (immersion) until Grade 12. It definitely teaches you very well from my experience. I'm ont as good speaking or reading as I was four years ago, but I understand everyone speaking French to me for the most part.

I took it until OAC but as they say "Use it or lose it". I can understand a good amount but it always seems like francophones are talking too fast for me to fully understand. Plus we never really studied slang and other terms you'd hear on the street and in the workplace, very little "practical" french was taught. I go on business trips to Montreal from time to time and I could never in a million years function in the workplace there, fortunately everyone there speaks near flawless english. But if you go deeper into Quebec you are pretty much SOL.

French is not the easiest language to begin with. I think I learned more than a dozen forms of past present future tenses when I was a kid and I'm using about 4 or 5 now. Unless you are historian or a poet half of those are useless.
Even in official government documents I see quite a few grammar mistakes.
Started learning English when I was about 12 and by 16 I was pretty able to read most novels.
No brainer which of the 2 is the easiest

English is way harder to learn if you are from some non-English speaking country that uses romance languages, since it is unlike any other for the most part.

A language that stems from Latin (the language of Rome, hence the name "Romance" or "Romantic").

Use it or lose it for sure. I too took it unil OAC at SRB. And then one of my first jobs was over in the Govt office at Place du Portage in Hull so it was French all day there for me. Since moving to Toronto though, my French has gone way down hill. My daughter is in French immersion here so it's coming back slowly as I help her with her homework.

Yep, the language of the "Romans", hence the "Romans" (roman-z / roman-ce) language. Nothing funny about it; it's pretty elementary European history.

People nowadays associate "romance" with "sappy love narratives" or "love" generally, but that's a very modern imposition. "Romance" originally means "the romance languages" (i.e., Latin-derived). It also became directly associated with things written in the romance languages, especially prose narratives (i.e., tales about chivalrous knights), which were in turn called "romances", and were early precursors for the novel. And so it is that the French (a romance language) name for "novel" is actually "roman".
