They actually gain, in a sense. One thing that Holmgren has successfully done is to ensure that Weber either plays for Philly or stays in the West.

Preds have to match this. Keep him for a season (Have to at least a year right?) or two then trade him. He's worth way more in trade than the 4 1st's Philly would have to give up.

Weber may not want to be in Nashville but he should have thought of that before he signed that offer sheet.

All signs are pointing to Preds matching...

I meant for Philly though. That's not a good enough defence at all, they're gonna be eaten alive with those guys on the backend and Bryzgalov in net.

If that is true and they match.. I love it.

I just hate it when these big market rich teams try to bully their way the way the Flyers did. Sure it was within the 'rules' but the way they structured the contract was to ensure Nashville would not be able to match it.

I'm thinking that might be doing Philly a favour. They have a bit of a logjam in the top 6 right now with Briere, Giroux, Hartnell, Schenn, Simmonds, Couturier, Read, and Voracek. Losing Voracek for a 1st and a 3rd wouldn't be terrible. They can possibly do better than that on the trade front, but I don't know that they'd match at this point.

If they didn't match it was the end of their franchise. Hopefully this goes a long way in building that team as a legit hockey city. Respect was earned today.

Nashville's been legit for some time.

I thought the bonuses would prevent Nashville from matching. Happy they did. Now this will be interesting to see how enthusiastic Weber is about being a Preds for life.
