I really think it should be 3 pieces.

1st rounder
top prospect
a roster or near roster player

IF there's a 4th item it's a B prospect to outbid others(let's say Greening).

And yeah it'll be Lehner not Bishop(if one of our goalies is traded).

If we get anything back on top of Nash, even better. Like a late pick or cap dump.

I think we're much better off keeping those three assets. If I'm trading a prospect for Nash I'm capitalizing on the hype and dealing Silfverberg to CBJ. Still don't want to trade for Nash though. We're fine without him. Nor do I think we can make the best offer out there.

Yeah? Kinda surprised to hear you say that considering that's not that huge a price to pay...or I didn't think it was personally.

Silfverberg is the only prospect other than Puempel that primarily plays LW. Stone, Zibanejad and Noesen are RWs.

Zibanejad played LW internationally for Sweden.

It's not a lot to pay, he just over values Zibanejad.

I'd much rather take the guaranteed home run in Nash than hope to hell that Zibanejad ever accomplishes as much as Nash has. And a 1st round pick, #15 overall, in a draft that even the Sens scouts admit to not really being overwhelming. And then possibly trading 1 of 2 young goalies, when Anderson is going to be the #1 for another 3 years.

I don't overvalue Zibanejad at all, and I'm not even comparing Nash to Zibanejad or saying he will accomplish what Nash has (which is what, exactly?) You say I overvalue him, yet you include as the main piece for Nash. So you're admitting that you're lowballing CBJ.

I'd rather develop our own stars, like most Cup teams do. There are very few Cup teams who trade significant prospects for a star, high-price player. Most teams these days win with their own players.

it's not a lot to pay, I just think Zibanejad is untouchable right now and we don't need another underachiever from the GTA.

Ask Columbus if they would trade for Carter again.

That's a friggin high price to be just accepting that so readily imo.

Not many(if any) teams could give up both a blue-chip forward prospect, potential starting goaltender, and a pick which probably lands you a top 3-4 D-man down the line. If all that pans out like it could, the deal doesn't look so Dung hot for Ottawa I would think. If Nash is the a piece that put us over the top, then ok, but he's not.

I agree, although Zibanejad is a piece I would move for Nash personally. Can't resist.

By NHL standards, Nash is a beautiful piece who is all but guaranteed to score you 30 and probably many more. What's not to like for a blue chip prospect, a mid round 1st and a good young goalie who isn't even your future star in most opinions?

I would offer a combo of current players (such as Foligno/Michalek and Bishop) and both our 2012 and 2013 first round picks if needed. That way, you don't lose anything in the cupboard on forward.

Columbus gets a goalie, 2 1st round picks, and a good current, young position player.

Sure, but all three? I like Nash, but we aren't talking about a guy who's perennially challenging for a scoring title or anything. I think he'd be great with Spezza, but damn, that really does seems like a lot for Nash.

For me, it's the sum of the parts, that makes this seem so steep. What is also not being talked about in this scenario is the salary that Ottawa would be relieving Columbus of, something I would think would be quite desirable in and of itself.

I look at Bishop as bait personally. We got him to help us make the playoffs, but not for the long run, just a really smart purchase by Murray wjo can now parlay him into a huge forward. The 1st hurts because of the dearth if D prospects, but we can buy a UFA or two, or perhaps even trade Smith or someone similar for a young defense man.

Next year's first? affraid

I expect (although I don't want to see it), that we'll see the Sens drop off a bit next year. Making the playoffs won't be easy. Let's not kid ourselves here. There are teams that WILL be better (Tampa and Buffalo spring to mind), and we face the uncertainty of Alfie possibly not returning. Will the loss of Kuba be felt, especially if he isn't replaced? Can we expect Gonchar to do anything but decline? I'm not holding my breath. I'm not forecasting doom and gloom here, but I don't think we are a lock for a playoff spot by any means.

It just seems to me that this isn't the right time, nor the right way to build this team for long term success going after Nash.
