Crazy dream, right? Well, not according to Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray, who has talked with Columbus Blue Jackets counterpart Scott Howson “several times” about a possible trade.

“Realistically, I don’t know,” Murray said. “But I think my job as a general manager is to investigate every possibility to improve our hockey team and that’s what I’ve done. I’ve talked to Scott on the basis of what we might be able to do and we’ll just have to see what he comes back with, if he does.

“My job is always to be involved, if I can, in any big player transaction.”

Is it news that Murray has investigated the possibility of obtaining Nash? I would assume 28 other GMs have done the same.

I don't think you can believe NY offered Kreider, just like you can't believe that Murray explicitly told someone that Zibanejad would be traded for him. It's likely speculation on someone's part.

We'll see what NYR offers. Dubinsky being part of a deal is a huge draw back because he's a #3 center at best and he's on a decent sized deal.

There just isn't another team involved that can offer what the Sens can.

I have the same amount of confidence in what Ottawa can offer. The only thing that would stand in the way is Nash not wanting to play in Ottawa.

By decent, if you mean decently pricey, then yeah I agree. If you are Columbus, you probably want as little in $$$ back as possible. So if you have two offers, one with a RFA Nick Foligno coming off of a $1.2M contract and one with a Brandon Dubinsky with three more years making $4.2M, and Foligno is coming off of a career high with 47 points, and whose career high in goals is 17 vs. Dubinsky whose career high in points is 54 and career high in goals is 24, but Foligno is also a year younger.

Some factors to consider for sure. Dubinsky has broken the 40pt plateau 4 times, but is coming off of his career worst with 34.

Playoff wise, (not that it matters to Columbus Wink )... Foligno has 6pts in 17 games vs. 17 in 31 for B-Dubs.

I've already called Uncle Rick to talk to him about it.

Well it sounds like Murray has actually made an offer (ie. we're interested). So it's more than just investigation.

I am OK with the rumoured offer, it doesn't make the on-ice roster worse, only better. I would really really prefer if we kept our 1st.

It's a really fair offer, and similar to what Philly got for Richards. Howson needs to stop smoking whatever he is puffing in his office if he thinks he'll get much more than that. Any team that takes on Nash's contract from Columbus is doing them a huge favor. Howson should send an X-mas card to that team every year.

And very few teams can take that salary on without sending a sizable contract back to CBJ. I agree with Neely that we do have an advantage assuming we really are in on Nash.

Whether Nash would waive for Ottawa it's hard to say. This is a great organization and I'm sure anyone he'd ask would tell him so. We're a team on the rise that will contend fairly soon and we're close to Toronto if there's family there he'd like to be close to. Can't necessarily see him waive but I can't see why he would be opposed either.

There's nothing in Warren's article that says Murray made an offer.

If we trade for anyone, I'd bet on Bobby Ryan, not Rick Nash. I tend to agree with Yost's recent article.

I'd rather roll the dice with Ryan than Nash.

My sources tell me that the same package applies to Ryan. May the best man win.

That sounds like he gave Howson a list of players we'd be willing to part with and is waiting for a response/counteroffer.

He doesn't use the word "offer" to make things easier when he asked to explain to Foligno and Zibanejad next year why their names came up in trade rumours.

I think Ryan would cost more.

Younger, better contract and more teams would be in on him (and be able to afford him).

Not for Ottawa because they would just back off. The ball is now in the hands of whoever the Ducks GM is...

Yeah, Murray isn't under any pressure to make a deal. Ryan would likely have a different price tag than Nash, given the needs of Anaheim differ from those of Columbus.

Dealing with Columbus might make more SENSe from Ottawa's perspective, as we have Lehner/Bishop that we could dangle.

Then again, Ryan's current contract is more amenable to a "budget" team like Ottawa, so maybe we're willing to negotiate a little more to bring in Ryan over Nash.
