Ottawa is a smaller market team that plays in a very cold part of Canada... tough to try and convince Nash otherwise.

Nash is from Brampton, I think he's all too familiar with the weather.

I think our mention in the Nash sweepstakes is just Columbus trying to drum up more interest, I'm sure Murray did kick the tires on Nash though. Maybe trying to get Nash to increase his list as well.

It sounds like Murray will pull the trigger on something at the draft though.

Might be familiar with it, doesn't mean he wants it.

Starting to feel that the proposal I made holds water.

Savard = highly touted, puck moving D-man

31st overall = one of the 4 goaltending prospects

Nash = Nash

Well Toronto was on his initial list of teams, weather down there isn't different from here.

Yeah. Same tax implications too. Bigger endorsements though.

What ? Nash wouldn't want to do Jubilee Jewelers commercials with Spezza ? Laughing3

There's only so much Jim Keay money to go around.

The weather is quite different in the GTA actually. Having lived in Brampton, there is less snow and slightly warmer winters.

Dealio.

I think we're much better off keeping those three assets. If I'm trading a prospect for Nash I'm capitalizing on the hype and dealing Silfverberg to CBJ. Still don't want to trade for Nash though. We're fine without him. Nor do I think we can make the best offer out there.

Yeah? Kinda surprised to hear you say that considering that's not that huge a price to pay...or I didn't think it was personally.

it's not a lot to pay, I just think Zibanejad is untouchable right now and we don't need another underachiever from the GTA.

Ask Columbus if they would trade for Carter again.

That's pretty selective history right there. Ask ANA if it was worth it to trade for Pronger. Or LA if it was worth it to trade for Richards, and Carter. Or BOS if it was worth it to trade for Horton.

That story can and does go either way. I can't think of too many big, big name trades (they're so rare), but there are certainly examples of those impact players having an immediate, cup-winning effect.

The difference being Anaheim was already loaded and was primed to contend. LA? Already loaded roster, really didn't need Schenn or Simmonds. A team like Columbus who was in no position to contend goes out and deals a nice 8th overall pick and a great young player in Voracek for Jeff Carter.

Ottawa is in no position to contend for a Cup, so I don't think they should be doing any trades of the sort at this time.

ps the Horton trade was really nothing special so I'm not sure why you're putting that in the same conversation.

No position? So they shouldn't try? Sounds like last season when Sens were going to finish last.

But you are right, the Sens shouldn't improve. They shouldn't add a top 6 forward and go out and get a defenceman, they should go the Edmonton route.

Name the last time you've seen a low budget, re-tooling team who just made the playoffs after finishing 5th last trade significant prospects and assets for a big name, high price player.

Hint: you can't other the Columbus last year. And it failed.

They should go out and get a defenceman. They should improve the team. There's just no chance they make a deal for a guy like Nash. You can improve your team without affecting your cupboard of prospects.

Once the team gets better and you see what you have, then you can make a big trade after evaluating your prospects in the pros.

That I can agree with.

Philips, Gonchar and Kuba (if they resign him) will be older. Our defence CAN be worse than last year without changes.

I've said the same thing for a while. Now's not the time for Nash - although there likely won't be another chance to acquire him, but there will be others.

Agreed. Thursday or Friday. But not now.

It's a big fat no for me if they want Cowen. Not a chance.

If you really don't think OTT is in a position to contend, you clearly weren't watching the hockey. OTT took NYR to 7 games, and definitely could have won that series. OTT is right on the cusp, not 3 years from now, but right now, especially if they make a few deft moves this off-season. They stack up with any team in the east with the exceptions of BOS and PIT -- and as this year's playoffs have reminded us once again, anything can and does happen in the postseason.
