Just need to pass a baseline test. If you can go you can go.

I think if you fail the baseline test you need to be out for a minimum number of days before you take it again.

Regardless, it is Alfie and he knows his time is running out so I don't think he will let anything stop what could very well be his last playoffs.

The Rags may dress John Scott (http://rangers.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8473722) as Hagelin's replacement. 6'8", 270 lbs, nuclear weapon John Scott.

That's fine...he'll be a liability.

He's being selfish. This mini camp playoff simulation for the future kids is supposed to be about the kids. For invaluable experience that comes not from winning but from experiencing the experience of being in the playoffs without playing to win.

Shame on The Alfie.

Streaks like that are meant to be broken. We will win.

It's a different team.

If Alfie is out because of this, I want a Sens player to crush a NYR head -- Richards, Gaborik, or Callahan. Alfie for Hagelin is not even close to a fair trade off.

I advocate revenge but not head shots. Crushed oesophaguseses are fine, though.

The NHL needs a better mechanism to deal with this stuff in the playoffs. It's too easy to send a goon or lesser player after a star in an attempt to hurt him. Teams will keep doing this stuff as long as it's clear that it provides them with an advantage, which it clearly does. Sure, take the offending player out -- but if the victim is taken out because of the dirty play, then slap the team with a substantial fine, make that fine count against next year's cap, and make them sit a player of roughly equal value for the duration of the victim's injury.

Make the consequences of the action matter, and you will see a reduction in this nonsense.

Speaking as a guy who spent many a night fulfilling a role similar to Carkner, I can tell you that sometimes the insinuation of retribution is sufficient to throw the other teams best players off their game. More than once while facing off near the other teams bench, I'd turn and make a comment to their best players that out on the ice wasn't the safest place to be that night, and they might just want to take the night off.

When they did venture out onto the ice, I'd get a tap and while I never did anything, you could see heads turn to see who was on the ice and many a player disappeared after that.

Top players know they are targets, they always were and always will be. The big issue comes when the top players start things and then don't stand up for themselves.

I'm not saying Karlsson deserves anything, but if he wants respect in this league, he needs to take care of his own problems from time to time. Not necessarily with a fight, but not backing away either when a scrum ensues.

Richards, and Gaborik will be watching over their shoulders for the rest of the series, but they shouldn't be just because what happened to Alfie. They should be because it's the playoffs and they are the Rangers best players. They should be targets, but within the rules of the game, however if they decide to get a little nasty, then make them accountable.

I understand the logic behind your proposal (eye for an eye), but it will never be implemented.

Also, the players' union would have big issues with it. They don't want the cap being f'd with, and they don't want more people being suspended. I think the thing that would make the biggest difference is bigger fines. Yeah, suspend a guy for a few games, but ALSO be able to fine him beyond the salary he will lose. For instance, a guy sits 5 games, loses $50,000 in salary, but ALSO can be fined a matching amount to the salary lost (i.e. an additional $50k).

Of course, the players union would never accept that either...so longer suspensions seems to be the only available penalty.

The mechanics of the thing I'm not decided on, but the necessity of severe consequences for a TEAM whose player intentionally injures an opposing team's player is one that I am. This Dung is happening because teams recognize that taking out an opposing team's top player is well worth having a plug / goon suspended for a few games.

Make the consequences of the crime adequate to the crime, and you will see a substantial decrease in this kind of activity. Intentionally taking out star players on an opposing team through dirty head shots and reckless plays ought not to be an acceptable strategy in the NHL. They need rules in place that reflect that.

Scott is a bit of a monster. Saw a few of his fights on YouTube. Mind you, mostly against not-exactly heavyweights. He's had 5 fights this year (NHL) while Bickell has had 20 (12 at the NHL level). I think it'll be Bickelly tonight (since Carkner is out) and then Scott on Wednesday.

And this is where the NHL should step in. Scott is a dynosaur from another era. He has 2 assists in 75 games over the last two seasons. In his only game against Ottawa (March 8, a Sens win) he had 2:34 minutes of ice time. Clearly he's not there to help out his team.

That's a mistake on their part, but yeah, let's do it.

I can't see how the NHL can do anything about what players a team dresses. Scott has 4 playoff games vs. Kreider's zero.

I get it and totally agree...the logic that the instigator rule is preventing some of this stuff doesn't fly with me. If a teams good/tough guy wanted his pound of flesh he'd get it (ala Boyle). It doesn't take long for a guy like Boyle to lose the respect of his fellow union brothers. The Hagelin incident is different. I've long believed that the NHL needs to have a documented public list of offenses and minimum suspension times. There would be no arguing. If you received a 5 min major for a head shot first then first offense it's 3 games, 2nd offense, it's 5 games, 3rd offense it's 10 games...etc.

Same with spearing, hits from behind, kicking...etc.

I hope "Scotty" is hungry because young Chris Neil is serving humble pie.
