NHL might have to step in and loan cash to the Devils to just make payroll.

This is for Big Ev:

The National Hockey League is in talks with the money-losing New Jersey Devils to advance the team money so it can continue to operate through the season, The Post has learned.
Under the NHL plan, Devils controlling owner Jeffery Vanderbeek would continue to run the team while he pursues a long-term financing solution, sources said.
“We can presume if the advance has not happened, it is going to happen soon,” a source close to the team said.
The Devils, which need to meet payroll twice a month until the regular season ends April 7, are weighing trading team captain Zach Parise for draft picks.

Why is that for me?

scratch I wondered that, too.

EDIT: Ha. And then I read the next post. Facepalm

I thought that too and then thought I shouldn't read it; since it was especially for EV Smile

Is it gonna be though? With so many teams in the hunt, there's not too many players to choose from.

Murray just brick-walled Hemsky. Laugh1 Hemsky bounced off him and collapsed.

I'm not disputing that its better to have lefty-righty combos but seriously in our situation on the 3rd pairing, its kind of a moot point with our current options.

how in the world did we ever play Boro without taking out one of Cowen, Phillips, or Kuba....

Mostly because this left-right nonsense is a load of crap. Beer

That's right. What do real, experience NHL Dmen know about playing D in the NHL? Cussing nothing.

No, we played Boro for *one* game and moved Phillips over to the right side. Tonight, for all we know, they might flip them around, since KK *has* played him on the right side in Bingo. It's called one step at a time -- let him get his feet wet on his usual side in his first NHL game before trying him out on his off-side.

We're blessed to have guys that can get moved around then since only an elite few are able to do so.

I think I can name 5 guys who can play a regular shift on their off side in the NHL right. So, that's like just about everyone, right? Right.

I think it's a consideration for sure but it gets really overblown here.

Exactly. It's also the reason I'm angry at Auld for not potting a few goals this season. I mean, contribute guy! What's your excuse? You play goal? Pfff. Adjust, man!

This post sums it up right here. Overblown is an understatement....like come on as if one of our current left-handed d-men actually get sit down because a newcomer is also lefty. They may switch sides but the fact that 'sitting them down' is the option really overblows the whole debate.

As for the newcomer playing 3rd pairing minutes, everyone misses the point of that person making a huge contribution on the PK. We need big bodies blocking shots (and being physical) especially in the playoffs. Anyone seen our PK numbers? Nothing to be impressed by.

Hall of famer Denis Potvin would agree. Or, actually, he would say the exact opposite. But what does he know about playing D in the NHL? It's not like he's one of the best 10 D to ever play the game. Pompous Donkey that he is.

Exactly. What do Dmen know about playing D? Let's trust amateur hour at GMHockey instead! Nod

It's just black and white with you Rooney. Nowhere am I questioning the importance of playing on your right side but that's OK u need a reason to act like a Richard

I'd say it's black & white with you. Left side, right side, no biggie, no difference. Right?

My dispute was with the notion that just because you get another dman who happens To be better than carkner and lee except he's lefthanded means one of Cowen philips or kubs HAS to sit.....that shouldn't be too hard to understand for such an esteemed individual like yourself

The basic premise to begin with is that Dmen in the NHL are comfortable on one side of the ice or the other... and that leaves 3 guys a side... so, for someone who I assume has at least done grade 9 math, you know that, I'm guessing, that leaves, uh, 3 guys aside. But I'm making a lot of mindblowing assumptions, I know.

Nah..nothing you ever say can be considered mindblowing. Not only can I do more math than you Doctor, I can also comprehend a block of text....unless I'm he'll bent on being ignorant of others.

Your arguments still consist of points I didn't make in my defense at all...cuz maybe I'm not trying to say what ur imagining I'm saying. By your logic, borowiecki should be replacing Cowen, kuba, or.phillips. Not carkner.

Wow, this is hilarious.

I love when Rooney keeps using a goalie playing any other position than goal as an example when it is a horrible example.

The equivalent to a defenceman who normally plays left switching to right is a right winger playing left. Is there going to be adjustment? Yes. Obviously your natural instinct of playing a certain side will conflict with you trying to force yourself to play another side, but it's not impossible.

Rooney's straw-man approach is getting tiresome, glad someone else is picking up on it.

Are you guys still going on about this? Laugh1 Laughing3 Don't get me wrong, it's funny. Real funny. I look forward to more of the same.
