You said you have no use for a slow, lumbering d-man like Gill....then you say you'd rather have Carkner? I don't even...

This is why I too feel its necessary to get a veteran D-man. We're forgetting that injuries can still happen to someone from our top 4 and you don't want someone green to be stepping into that position.
I would actually take Lee over Carkner if he can get his feet wet a little more.

Would you go into the playoffs with Carkner/Lee back there - with Phillips being able to move up if injury strikes? That's the million dollar question...

The National Hockey League is in talks with the money-losing New Jersey Devils to advance the team money so it can continue to operate through the season, The Post has learned.
Under the NHL plan, Devils controlling owner Jeffery Vanderbeek would continue to run the team while he pursues a long-term financing solution, sources said.
“We can presume if the advance has not happened, it is going to happen soon,” a source close to the team said.
The Devils, which need to meet payroll twice a month until the regular season ends April 7, are weighing trading team captain Zach Parise for draft picks.
As punishing as his patented hip check may be, he misses a lot. He can be fun to watch, but I'm not a huge Sutton fan.Hoags wrote:NEELY wrote:
3rd pairing guy on the left side, Gil is perfect. Does everything you need of him and does it well.
We have no need of a 3rd pairing guy on the left side, right side yes. Paying a high price for Gill only to have in the press box until a left D goes down is just silly.
As for a top-6 forward, just about every playoff (or borderline) playoff team will want one. Tuomo Ruuto gets tossed around for good reason but Rutherford is going to get a lot of offers and he's to play teams against each other and drive up the price. Probably not worth it.
We either get an expensive core piece (like Turris) or cheap depth D-man (on the RIGHT ! ) otherwise we're better off just taking our chances with what we have, we've greatly exceeded expectations with this roster in the regular season who's to say we won't do the same in the playoffs ?
Even our favorite whipping boy Bobby Butler who only has 5 goals but 3 of those are GWG. How do we know he won't score another GWG in a playoff game ? There's are intriguing reasons to have in the lineup for a playoff game. That's when no-name players become heroes.
Oh and Sutton sucks. Yes he's an expert and throws big hits but he'll get penalized a lot and will probably be suspended one or more times before the playoffs start(if not during the playoffs) since he's on Shanahan's Dung list. The guy's slow, any fast forward can blow past him. His big hit on Leopold woke the Penguins up in that series, that's about all he accomplished here.

I wondered that, too.
EDIT: Ha. And then I read the next post.
