tim1_2 wrote:Cussing great game by The Sens. The Alfie, Spezz, Karlsson, Greening, etc etc...everyone looked great.

Auld was solid, not much he could've done on any of the goals that went in on him, but I'd expect some people to rag on him, because that's what happens when an Ottawa goalie lets in more than 2 goals, regardless of the fact that Pittsburgh had 36 shots and our defence has proven to be porous.

Anyway, I didn't come here to complain about anything (just had to point out the above after reading ridiculous comments). Very happy with the win, against a VERY tough opponent! 7th in the East now AND CLIMBING.

We must be climbing the wrong way. 9th after New Jersey's game ended. Sarcasm

I think if he's to be successful you need to put him with Phillips on his natural right side and with a sturdy, defensive D-man. He also would need to see a lot of ice time - he played only 8 minutes tonight. If we can't do it now, we have to send him back when Gonchar or Kuba returns, he has a chance to be a killer on the 2nd pairing, so we need to handle this properly. He needs to play in Bingo - especially with Locke back, or he needs to play here, but he needs to study his deficiencies right now and fix things with the help of the coaching staff and Phillips.

There's a bit of talk starting about Gonchar to the Flyers. He would only replace Pronger's offense and experience, but I just don't see Holmgren making a trade for that kind of player. Just doesn't fit the Flyers' style.

Anyhow, when we're just on the outside of a playoff spot I don't know if that's a trade Murray would be willing to make, either.

There's also still the Turris talk...they were saying last night they expect him gone at some point this weekend and Ottawa is a potential destination, along with Calgary...same old, same old I guess.
Not sure anyone outside of Lee is expendable on the blue line...let's keep in mind that last night was a bounce back game for Karlsson....he's looked atrocious without Kuba over this last stretch. Trading Gonchar doesn't make sense this early...unless someone comes to us with a nice package.

It fits their need IMO, they have Coburn, they need a guy that can play a steady game and Gonchar's shown that with competent coaching, he's still got a lot to give. The thing I can't buy is the 'rumour' or whatever that it would be for Schenn. And if it's not for Schenn, then what are we looking at? The Sens are in a playoff spot, they're playing well as a team, if they trade Gonchar it creates a pretty big hole.

Not sure what to give here either. Apparently it's a roster player + 1st round pick - which is too much, we should absolutely not be giving up that 1st rounder unless it's part of a package for some like Parise, Ryan, someone already established and successful.

I still maintain too that if Regin regains his health and builds up some more strength, he'll be a damn good player. It'll be interesting to track Regin vs Turris in their careers.

I would do Regin for Turris straight up...Regin with his injury issues and Turris with apparent attitude issues seems fair...I know Turris is projected to be a real player but a hold out this early in his career is definitely a concern. Giving a first rounder for him straight up would be a risk at this point, especially with Murray and crew's drafting abilities. They were saying last night that Phoenix is looking for equal money deal...not sure where that puts us.

I say if we can get a high return for Gonchar, we do it. It's not like we're going to win the cup or anything. We'll get blown out of the fist round, even if we make it.

You're underestimating playoff experience for the kids. It's arguable that it is more important than a high draft pick.

The Alfie... 1997/98 season... missed first 5 games over a contract dispute.

Turris is different though, he simply does not want to play in Phoenix.

no one wants to play in Phoenix.

How does wanting to play in a legit hockey market get such a bad response. He wants to play somewhere where the fans care and fans everywhere lambast the kid with ignorant (no offense) hate. It's nonsense.

Or actually play for a coach who gives young players opportunities.

meh, Tippett continually makes an irrelevant roster relevant.

On paper, if that was offered, we do it right away, but I doubt they'd settle for less than Regin + 2nd rounder - and I'm hesitant, I don't really care what anyone says about Turris.

Fair enough but if you're a GM, are you saying you don't bother to consider this recent contract dispute at all? You're going to place value based only on his limited play on the ice? I doubt you applied the same logic when Heatley demanded a trade.

I was happy when he demanded a trade...didn't care about the reason, still don't.
