I hate to pin losses on a goalie, but with the mentality of this team, auld's gotta stop that first goal. It's always downhill from the first goal allowed....

Yakupov, we're coming for you.
So, as of today, do you think there's a worse 5 on 5 team in the NHL?

"Back to basics"
"Keep it simple"
"Do the little things right"
"Get the first goal"
"Make the stops"
"Play the full 60 mins"
yadda yadda yadda...
This looks like a team not playing as a team right now... PMac will have to get them gellin' again.
That's going to be the hardest part of this whole proccess and it depends on one player inparticular doing so. It has to be Spezza.

We haven't seen any consistent lines. Even lines most of us thought were working and effective got blown up last night (even before things went bad).
We've played 6 games, and Maclean's still at the drawing board. We talk about the team gelling, learning the system, etc. - but they don't even know who they'll be playing beside game to game. In some cases, they don't even know what position they'll be asked to play. Is it a surprise that this team still seems lost next to teams where everyone knows their role?

The last Philly goals was a thing of beauty.
I still don't know why a lot of you are so surprised by the teams performance. I am pretty sure I called this from the beginning - they are not a good team, I am aware, and I am in full support of losing if it means getting a player that will be a centrepiece of the franchise for years. You can draft all the late picks you want, but they may or may not be anything better than a forced top 6 player. Edmonton has two players who are consensus top 6 on any team. I want that.
If the team makes a desperation move to try and win I will be furious.

So really, we're suffering through an 'everything that can go wrong...' scenario right now. I'm supremely confident in Anderson, and when he gets into a groove, he'll make a lot of the transitions we're facing a lot easier.

That pinhead, The Name Dropper, is delighted with Anderson's struggles.

Yeah, they look like a fragile team right now, and letting in that soft goal over the shoulder was a recipe for disaster.
Obviously there is lots of work to be done, but I think once Anderson gets in his groove, we'll see close, competitive games. There's not much point in debating which rookies need to go to the AHL, as I think we all agree that all of them could use a little AHL seasoning, but we don't really have the bodies to make that possible at this point.
I now know why all those media-types were picking Ottawa to finish at the bottom of the Eastern Conference!!
