Still, back in my day (this is university, some time in the 80s) the Engineering class had (I think) one girl in the entire year; over on the Comp Sci side of things, we had 25% female enrollment. That was about the only thing we had over the Engineers.

That's good, the engineers at Carleton irk me Nod

And yet, somehow, we should be surprised if these guys hit 10-15 over 82 games?

Then there's the other guys I mentioned in my group of 6:

-Foligno hit 14 goals last year after a brutal start, and 17 goals 2 years before that.
-Regin obviously had an overall brutal year last year, but he had 13 goals in the previous season.
-Filatov, well, he's the only real total x factor here in that he doesn't have a history of producing in the NHL at all.

Getting somewhere between 75 and 90 goals looks like a reasonably good bet to me.

Fair enough. I'm not sure you'll get the totals you think out of Condra, but I think Butler's the guy obviously. I can't understand people who say that he should play on line 2 or 3 or whatever (not necessarily on this site mind you), I disagree in a big way. I think the guy's gonna have to play himself off the right wing of Spezza with the 45 goals (or whatever) he scored in pro hockey last year.

Nevertheless, goals or no goals, as you and others have said, I doubt we'll be doubting the effort level too much next year.

"As for faceoffs, while both played primarily against the other team's 4th line centers, Konopka had more than 50% more short-handed ice time, when he would clearly be lining up against the top center. So his FO% being higher than Spezza's is pretty huge."

I didn't follow your logic. When comparing Spezza and Konopka, Spezza won 56.3% and Konopka won 52.3% while short handed. How does this make Konopka numbers more impressive.

I was comparing two 4th line players. Why are you bringing Spezza into the equation? Of course Konopka's numbers are inflated (relative to Spezza) because 5-on-5 Spezza faces the best in the league. But when comparing to Winch, they both face 4th liners 5-on-5, and the best short-handed, and Konopka has more short-handed TOI.

Greening had 1 goal in 23 playoff games, and he probably won't be playing with Spezza next year, so I take his 6 goals for Ottawa with a grain of salt.
Condra won't be getting the ice time he got last year, so I don't expect 15+ from him either.
I would be disappointed if Butler didn't get 20 goals this year if he is in the top 6 all season.
In 6 seasons between Foligno and Regin, there is 1 15+ goal season and that was the 17 by Foligno two years ago. This is a make or break season for both IMO, if they don't hit 15+ they'll probably be done in Ottawa.
Filatov, who the heck knows.

I just don't see 90 goals out of that group next year.

Wouldn't the indicator be in the number of face offs? I would guess Spezza had a ton more take, making his numbers more impressive (how the hell do you find that on NHL.com?).

Spezza: 1210 faceoffs taken, 681 faceoffs won (56.3%), 137 SH-faceoffs won out of 262 (52.3%)

Konopka: 1075 faceoffs taken, 620 faceoffs won (57.7%), 100 SH-faceoffs won out of 176 (56.8%)

Wow, a lot closer than I thought. Konopka must have been paraded out there a lot, then told to change.

I think there'll be a number of guys rotating through the press box - Condra, Greening, Regin, Winch, Z. Smith will all take turns along with Lee, Carkner, Cowen and I'd also say Rundblad might be in the mix there too.

I think Condra replaces Winchester to be honest. Condra at least has shown more offensive flare in his game and considering how poor the offense is, they will gladly take winchester out in favor of Condra. In terms of everything else, I can't see it changing at all.
