Or, maybe Phillips got a call from home, saying that he's got a sick kid. Could literally be a 1000 things, many of them trivial, but the time of year sure does ramp up the speculation. Laugh1

Highly unlikely the GM of a team that has up to 5+ players on the block would take a break from watching the practice/talking to other GMs to come down to ice level and tell Chris Phillips his kid is sick.

No? Maybe not sick and certainly if it were something with his family warranting a visit from the GM he would have likely left the ice immediately (ie something bad has happened). However it is possible he wanted to talk to him about something seperate, a team commitment public appearance. I think there is 0 chance that it was to inform him he was traded.

Edit

Maybe he wanted to talk to Chris before the press got to him. Possible there is a nasty rumor floating around or about to go public and Murray wanted to give him the 411 before the press caught him off guard?

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!!

I mean, this belongs in the gossip thread. I come into this thread expecting trade updates not who's partner is hotter....

I'm not sure there is a bad place to put this kind of thing...then again if my wife sees this post..THIS IS THE WRONG PLACE FOR THIS TYPE OF DISCUSSION...I'm offended.

Just Murray working the media, adding to the circus in order to get Phillips to waive.

Okay, I think it's time. Say your goodbyes everyone.

Laugh1 No offense SD but didn't you claim this a day or two ago as well? Seriously, your optimism and dramatics are much appreciated on my part. I love it.

Laugh1 It's about that time though in all seriousness, but yes, I live to amuse.

yeah I don't think so just yet, maybe I will have to eat some crow after, and if I do, then I shall, but even Elliott, who hasn't contributed anything close to what Phillips has for the team/city got a call into Clouston's office, so I guess basically saying if that is the case and he is traded, Chris Phillips deserves better treatment than just someone tapping him on the shoulder on the bench.

I wonder if the Caps stepped up finally for Phillips.

Have the Phil-stakes been narrowed down to certain teams?

You're going to be SO disappointed if Phillips isn't traded. LOL. I'm not saying he won't be, but I think (and have long thought) that the odds of us keeping him are higher than those of us trading him. What happened to Kelly changed the playing field a bit, for sure, but regardless, I just don't think it's wise (for your own mental and physical well being, I mean) to go around thinking this is anything like a certainty / inevitability.

I doubt I know any more than you. The only thing I heard that was of interest was CKAC saying it was all but done that Phillips would be moved to Montreal. Which is likely BS, but who knows.

I like that Murray's keeping this going until the last second though.

Caps are like LA, they don't really step up for anyone.

Truth is I want Phillips to re-sign. I have no wish to see him leave really - other than he's worth something to our rebuild by leaving, but he's also a pillar back there for us.

I've been saying for anyone who'd listen that a coaching change/change of philosophy can change a lot, and I really believe that as good an Xs and Os coach as Clouston *can* be, he's not getting it done in terms of actually coaching his players.

I would, however, love to hear of Kuba being moved so we can get some youth into our lineup, but even if he isn't, there are always injuries, Rundblad and Cowen will have to wait patiently in the AHL until it happens.

My dream scenario:

Re-sign Phillips to a 3 million X 4 years, trade Kuba for whatever we can get, hopefully get a nice deal on Anderson (3 million or less X 3 tops) and move from there.

I really wonder how things will go. A lot of rumoured destinations for Sens players seem to overlap. I find it hard to believe that one team will be in a position to take more than 1 player. For example, Kuba and Neil both rumoured to go the NYR and Kovalev and Phillips to WSH.

I won't even go so far as to assume that things will abate for now until the actual deadline because I don't doubt there will be more big deals before then.

No one thinks that Bryan Murray just decided to play with the media a little?

"Hey Chris, play along with me, we'll give these mofos something to talk about!"

as I am quite certain that he is sick of the relentless media attention. He likely gets assaulted for information even when he goes the drugstore to pick up his Viagra
