As it stands now, they hold the 15th pick. A nicely placed losing streak could easily see them fall into 13th in the West. We have a reasonable shot at ending up with 2 top-ten picks folks. Keep your 2nd or 3rd...THE NASHVILLE TANK BUS IS NOW BOARDING! Ahhhhh!

FingersCrossed lots of things need to go our way for the preds to drop that far but its entirely possible....just as its possible for calgary, minny, and chicago to fall to 13th instead.

CHI and defenceman Brent Seabrook on verge of finalizing big contract extension, hearing 5 years at a shade under $30M.

Saw something to this effect on TSN this morning. Rumblings of a $5.5 mil / yr deal. Hadn't heard anything about possible term before this, tho'.

5.5 is better than ~6, which sounds a little petty, but it's true IMO. 5 million X 6 years would be a lot better for the Hawks, a lot better, not sure how a 5 million per year X 6 years isn't market value for Seabrook, but then again, I'm not an NHL GM. Shrug

EDIT: I couldn't do ~6 million per year, if he didn't come down in $$ and up in term, I'd trade him I think.

I've never understood the excessive love this guy gets, from an offensive perspective, I mean. And I don't mean to disparage him, he's a very steady D presence who can put up something like 40 points in the season -- a solid two-way contributor I'd love to have on my team.

But at $5 or 6 mil, for a D, I'd be expecting more offense that he has, historically, provided or seems to have the ability to provide.

Then again, JBo got $6.5 or whatever, so who knows anymore. All I can say is that, all things considered, if the price is about the same, I'd much rather have Keith than Seabrook. I'm expecting big time offensive production if I pay a D a dime over $4.5 mil.

Me neither, but he's the ying to Keith's yang I guess, so they want to keep that pairing together. Plus, if he can continue to get up to 40 points, then that's getting up there to being worth it I guess, just see the $$ figures and cringe. It's a cap system, how come you can't get him for 5? He's an RFA after this season as well.

I guess Seabrook's camp said that if you want a lower cap hit, then put 4 more years on the contract.

Little bit of good news. The way the ranking system works, the 14 teams who don't make the playoffs have the 14 first spots. So even though Nashville has more points than Carolina, because Carolina is in the playoffs, they get bumped up. So currently, Nashville actually has the 13th pick.

If that happens, there goes one less team that could have possibly wanted Kuba.

Yeah, until the off-season anyway.

No one will want him in the off-season. The only reason teams are even stupid enough to consider taking him in probably his worst season ever and are willing to take that extra year is desperation due to mounting injuries. That will not be a factor in the summer at all.

You might be surprised. Kuba's declined a lot, but at the same time, if he can get back to 100% health and then get his confidence back up, he's a sturdy D-man who makes simple plays and can stabilize a 2nd pairing IMO. We might be better off just keeping him and hoping he can regain his form, but I think there'll be suitors for him.
