I thought it was comical how zenon kenopka was defending gillies saying 'he has a family to feed and now won't get his $35K in salary'. Laugh1 really Zenon? he should have thought of that before he acted like a complete asswipe.

And yeah I agree, this guy should have gotten way more, especially for the sucker punch after injuring the player....what the hell was he thinking??

Yeah, I actually lol'd when I read his quotes. Diddle the family, how's Tangradi feeling right now? Concussed you say? Then forget about the 35K you'll lose Gillies, let's make it an even 60K. Good? Good.

Yeah, and he said Mario doesn't realize what happens in the heat of the moment? What the Isles did is not heat of the moment, that's premeditated revenge.

The best part about that conversation is he blantantly stated that with the score being 6-0 they decided it was time to send a message.

Funny how the NHL didn't feel what Talbot did to Comeau the week before was either a headshot or a blindside his, but the Islanders decided to take it matters into the own hands.

Further he stated that they were just trying to protect their players. Really..what happened in that specific game to their top players that warranted the melee. Nothing, but it was in reaction to what happened the week before.

He even went so far as to mention how Dipietro was going under the knife and hinted that's why they went after Johnson...

Laughable, that they blame Johnson for Dipietro getting his Donkey kicked. The more he talked the more he dug himself into a hole and I wouldn't be surprised if the NHL decided to hammer the Islanders as a result of his stupid comments.

It's a joke. A friggin' joke - and I'm all for a nice brawl, this was disgusting and Konopka's comments only serve to cement the fact that the Islanders went after the Penguins for revenge and retribution.

I said at the time it should have been 10 for Martin and 15 for Gillies and 5 for Haley, but the NHL dropped the ball on this one - which is funny because people seem to think they did such a wonderful job on this one (they didn't).

Personally I believe Martin should have been given 15-20. If they want to send a message that his actions were the same as Bertuzzi with a different outcome, but they were punishing the action not the result. We all know they punish the result of the action not just the action itself, but I'd like nothing more for them to throw 15-20 at Martin and state that his actions were unacceptable. Same with Gillies.

Absolutely. The NHL sent a clear message: Bertuzzi-ing someone is fine and dandy - as long as they don't get hurt.

Everything about the whole situation is a joke, all the way down to Mario opening his mouth about it. Everything was handled wrong. If this is how they are going to handle situations like that, they will find themselves with a dead Crosby or someone on the ice soon. Period.

Exactly. Someone's gonna get killed because of this kind of revenge act - like Moore, but instead of career-ending injury, death or paralysis.

Next Sidney Crosby?

Speaking of which... what is the latest on Crosby's recovery?

Buff is hitting career high stats now... so they're banking on that to continue. He's 25 so this will take him to 30.

They have lots of cap space for sure, but also few UFA and RFA players after this season to deal with.
