Hero: Eric Godard. I don't care about coming off the bench, when someone makes a play at your goalie you have to step in (the Emery/Peters fight infuriates me to this day for that reason).

Zero: Mike Haley. The dude is a punk plain and simple and there was a reason he was in the lineup, because he's a disposable piece. This could be blamed more on coaching/management clearly defining his role beforehand, but until proven I've gotta blame the player.

Wow that Isles/Pens game was nuts. Is there any rule they can throw at Haley for skating all the way down and taking on the goalie? Godard is going to get hit hard for leaving the bench, for sure, but what the hell are they supposed to do? They are outnumbered on the ice because Tangradi is out. All the action is at one end and this guy goes all the way across to the other side? Is that not at least an instigator?

I'm really interested in the way this turns out. Surely there's got to be fines to the coaches.

It will be interesting. The rule indicates if you leave the bench to start a fight, it's an automatic 10 game suspension. But they could argue he was leaving the bench to defend his goalie and not actually *start* a fight. Hockeycentral tonight mentioned that last night... we'll see.

It's weak... but if Cooke only got 4 games... anything can happen...

The DiPietro/Johnson fight was fair and square. DiPietro was a willing (perhaps confused, but certainly willing) participant and Johnson did not do anything wrong. It didn't look like a huge punch and it certainly wasn't a sucker punch. DiPietro's simply Leclaire with a longer contract.

For them to run him all night is stupid. It's not like he picked on DiPietro. Still, I understand sticking up for your team-mate like that. But skating all the way down the ice like that -- there really should be a rule against that.

And I have no respect for Trevor Gillies.

I think it'll be somewhere around 5. You're right in that he didn't leave the bench to instigate a fight, he was protecting his goalie, and under the circumstances, I think there needs to be some discretion used here. Goalies should not be fighting skaters, and skaters sure as hell shouldn't be skating 180 feet to engage a goaltender.

Dreger is reporting that Godard may have given Hillen a concussion....

Dreger: Godard elbow on Jack Hillen, unofficially resulted in a concussion, or at least that's the early indication.

Yikes.

Agreed, except:

Zero: Gillies for being a complete piece of Dung. Jumping up, hitting Tangradi, then suckering him in the face, concussing him, then standing there talking smack to him while he's attended to. You're cool Gilles, 15 games for being such a douche. Martin's a zero as well, had he connected properly and hurt Talbot, people would be much more upset, the intent was there, give him the book.

It's automatic 10, there's issues surrounding where he gets an extra 1 or 2 games, but Diddle yeah, good for Godard. The person who will suffer is Bylsma for his actions. HUGE fine coming.

In fact when he first got to the fight he initially started grabbing Johnson to pull him away from Haley.

10 Games for Godard, 9 games for Gillies (too few), 4 games for Martin (too few) and a 100K fine for the Isles.

Bylsma didn't get fined? I guess there was no evidence that he sent Godard over the boards.

I've actually surprised that Gillies got that many. The hit itself was bad, but I've seen worse go with 3-4 games. Even for repeat offenders. Maybe they said punching a guy who's going down is a sucker punch since he cannot defend himself. What's the usual for a sucker punch? It looks like they tacked on a 2-3 games for being a DB.

Anyone catch Subban's fight with Lupul? Pretends to start taking off his helmet, Lupul goes to do the same and then PK starts throwing punches. They both wear visors.

That Dung is gonna catch up with him one day... love the kid but that stuff makes me shake my head.

Here's the video... skip to the 1:00min mark to see it all go down...

I'm looking at the video and I can see Lupul reaching for his helmet first, and while doing so he is also approaching Subban. Subban sees Lupul going for the helmet and he does the same, but at the same time Lupul is closing in on him, so Subban does what anyone would do, stop's taking his helmet off and defends himself. That's how I see it. I paused it as soon as I saw hands going up, and the only ones reaching for the straps were Lupul.

PK reaches up to his strap first... hard to tell on the Youtube video. If you catch a TSN highlight of it, you'll see it. It's subtle... but Lupul does the same and while he's taking his off, PK moves in.

Fair enough... that's just how I saw it. I still like Subban, always have, always will. Guy was a class act when I met him. He's come from pretty much nothing to where he is, worked very hard to get there. I like his enthusiasm and energy. He won't back down either and he will accept responsibility if someone calls him out.

He's still young too, he's just being the way someone his age typical would act.
