It sure as hell is but is it realistic? Is it part of the plan? It damn well better be if they actually believe they can build a cup contender in time for Alfie's swan song.

With ~20 million dollars to spend (wisely please!), then yes, it should be realistic. The question is: who and what do we have to give up?

I think it's time for a thread about forwards. Ahhhhh!

Also in the second proposed lineup you have room for guys like Regin and Foligno to take Butler's spot and you also have room for guys like Z. Smith to take Regin's spot if he continues to blow chunks.

To do that, we'd need to unload: Winchester, Campoli (RFA) and Kuba
And we'd let Kovalev, Ruutu, Leclaire, Shannon walk as they are all UFA's (unless we can move them at the deadline for anything).
Perhaps work a Phillips rental situation in there where he comes back next season.

The question right now that I have is:

Will Butler be a top line player with Spezza? And also, will Silfverberg force himself into the lineup? And also, will our draft pick force himself into the lineup?

Doubtful, but that would definitely change things.

I would make space for Winchester personally, but the rest I would let go. Perhaps keep Campoli, I've enjoyed him.

Basically proving my point that there really isn't room for all the things SpezD wants. So Winchester in and Butler out? I doubt it. I do see most of the guys mentioned as needing to go actually being gone next season though. Kovalev, Ruutu, Leclaire, Shannon all most likely gone. Winchester will still be here. Campoli I'm not sure of due to his RFA status and likely cheap deal forthcoming.

So maybe there's room for 1 sniping forward and one rookie D. Still don't see that making a major impact and getting us to 8th overall personally.

Is there not a chance that we draft Landeskog who would be ready to step in right away in a RW role with Spezz?

So Landeskog is added and we get a goalie. That is all.

Do you honestly believe we'll be getting not one, but two top-line wingers as UFAs after seeing what we were able to get in previous years, and seeing what's available this summer?

Do you honestly believe Melnyk will want to spend tons of cash chasing UFAs after the cluster f*ck he's seen this year?

I was literally asking myself that question; if I'm Melnyk, do I see myself spending to the cap next year ? My answer was no.

The party line will be 'the money will be there to add players at the deadline'. This is also the correct thing to do.

Our "good friend" Eck is back at it :

"Question #3: Does Jason Spezza need a new start? Kings want him.

There have been rumors swirling Alfredsson could be offered up this deadline. The Sens came out and squashed this calling Alfie, "Mr Senator" and realizing such a move would potentially be devastating to the fanbase.

They haven't gone nearly as far when it comes to saying "Spezza will remain a Senator." I do believe Speza could be had, and I do believe the LA Kings want him in the worst way. I also believe Spezza needs to get out of Ottawa. The time has come for Jason to play elsewhere. To get a fresh start. There are few players in the NHL who I would put above the talent level of Jason Spezza. He is "Team Canada Olympic" good and yet his career in Ottawa has left many to wonder if he will ever see his potential through.

I believe Spezza would thrive away from Ottawa, and I believe the Sens could get more than they think out of LA in return."

EDIT : Oh ... I forgot ................................ MORE TO COME !

I'd nominate Captain Kirk as a good replacement for CC. Watching these remaining games is gonna be painful Sad

I would love to see Muller brought in, I still think he's eyeing the Habs job though.

Top of my list for sure.

I agree but to be fair it said FA or trade acquisition. What are your thoughts on that? Wink
