Yeah, that's pretty well agreed but it doesn't cost anything to try Smile

I didn't realize Voynov was a D-man, we probably need all forward prospects.

He's a D-man, but he seems like the real deal. His numbers in the AHL are great. He currently has 29 points in 37 games for Manchester. Admittedly, I'm literally just reading off his stats, and that's all that I know about him, but those are impressive numbers.

I think you guys are a bit off on Fisher's position.
The reason why he isn't playing on the wing is simple: our depth at center is god awful. Who do you suggest take that 2nd line C spot? Regin is a bit more talented, but awful on faceoffs. Other than that I don't see.
When CUllen was here they put Fisher a bit on the wings with Alfie.

That makes much more sense to me than any suggestions that Fisher is blocking a shift to the wing.

The bigger stuff will happen in the summer I think. We almost need a re-do of the Kovalev and Leclaire acquisitions... a re-do that works though so we can land a top-line winger/sniper and a #1 goalie among other things... hopefully, whoever is GM can pull some trades and use the assets we have to start to address the issues, again.

Well, "bigger stuff" can be classified into 2 categories :

- Selling : that will happen sooner rather than later (between now and the trade deadline).
- buying : I agree with you that most of that will happen in the summer (maybe at the draft) ...
I don't see us selling a lot though... we've got cap hits coming off the books that won't be coming back for sure (Kovalev, Leclaire, Ruutu). Moving Kuba would be a nice to have... but I think that will be hard to do.

Shannon and Phillips are UFA's and I agree with Dr. Poo that Phillips will probably re-sign with the Sens. Not sure what the future holds for Shannon... I guess it will all depend on if the price is right.

Oddly enough, Brodeur is a UFA after this year.

And we still have buyouts from Cheechoo, Emery and Alfie on the books next year.

People who say Phillips has to go, or whatever, just don't have a clue. Phillips is the next captain of this team after Alfie retires, no questions.

Fisher has (in the past) said he is not comfortable on the wing. My beef is that he is not very good as a center -- not very imaginative and his faceoff percentage is around 50% (he's a 10-year vet as well, so he's not getting better.

Regin won the first 7 faceoffs in his first game. Granted, not against the league's best, but Fisher doesn't play against the league's best either.

I'm not saying Regin is the answer, but Fisher could really help the club by being that power forward winger we've been missing all these years. Kelly could fill in as a 2nd line center while we groom a young guy on the 3rd line (Regin, for example).

Simmonds is a beast of a player; watching him is a treat.

Agreed. Simmonds would be a fantastic piece coming back.

I'm in agreement, but I don't think this team needs to be trading for an RFA that is going to get a big payday in the offseason if a team like Toronto doesn't sign him to a big offer sheet.

DW, I wasn't speaking to the rumour because, well, it is a rumour. I was just referring Simmonds as a player.

Oh I agree...Simmonds is the kind of player Ottawa needs..big, fast and loves to hit, and can finish.

If Ruutu isn't coming back a line of Kelly, Neil and Simmonds really appeals to me. Although Neil and Simmonds may both be RW.

I like ruutu...but he better not be coming back. We need to get younger, stat.

Ruutu should fetch us a 3rd rounder...conditional if we're lucky.

The All-Ontario Line.

I don't care how good the Flyers or Stars third line is right now; the Sens would have the best one in the NHL.

That is a safe bet IMO.

Which part? I agree he's not coming back. Third rounder? Close, but not sure.

Has anyone watched Setoguchi play this year for extended periods?

Just the part I bolded originally.

I think you know by now I don't get involved in the guessing of trade talk. If it happens, it happens and I will speak to it at that time.
