Just going through Twitter and posting some speculative rumours:

http://spectorshockey.net/2011/02/nhl-rumors-february-6-2011/

- Edmonton Journal (Jim Matheson)- Omark to NAS for Blum; Hemsky to NAS for Ellis + 1st

- Tampa looking for a Defenceman, but Yzerman has stated he will not move his first three picks (1st, 2nd and 3rd).

- Blue Jackets look to be selling as they will not negotiate with any of their UFAs.

- Nashville wants to buy some offense

Spector I don't like at all, but those are very intriguing rumours.

Those aren't from him, he just compiled different rumours from various sources.

Can Columbus even afford to be sellers? You'd think they'd try and make a big push... they need a playoff appearance bad.

Hmm... I see what you're getting at... subtraction by subtraction lol.... while we don't get anything in the deal, we shed Kuba for a UFA... not a bad idea. I wonder if there would have to be a pick going either way... maybe Ottawa has to send a pick for Columbus to take on an extra year contract, or maybe Ottawa gets a pick for giving away a player that might be of help.

Now, I don't know why Columbus is selling to be honest. They've been trying for years to surround Nash with talent and they keep disappointing him. The talk of trading Mason is ridiculous. Unless you're getting a young goalie in return that could be as good as him, why bother? Imagine how bad it would be to trade a franchise goalie like Mason just to sign a veteran like Vokoun? Maybe Mason for Schneider, but at this point Mason > Schneider.

If Columbus can sell off some players they don't see as part of the team, and go out and finally get a player to play with Nash (like Brad Richards) in the offseason, they might finally be able to push for the playoffs. And if they can sign a top defenceman they will be set.

I was kinda hoping BM could surprise us all and convince Howson that Kuba could be the "top defenceman" that you mention and get him to throw in a 4th or so. Sarcasm

In all honesty, I'd love to see a trade like this. If it's true that Columbus won't be negotiating new contracts with their players, why not take a shot with a guy like Kuba that's shown that he can be a consistent 30-40 pt guy. That way, they don't let a UFA walk for nothing. I'm sure we'd take another contract on if they wanted to dump another expiring UFA and we could fit it in, just to balance the numbers.

It's one of the most realistic scenarios I have seen for sure, and makes quite a bit of sense.

Seems like there's a lot of hesitation right now with GMs not wanting to make the first move in fears of missing out or overpaying?

Like Edmonton's been holding onto Souray for so long, same with the BJ's and Commodore. You'd think they would have been in a hurry to move them. They keep talking about the Rangers wanting Souray... so whats the hold up?

Pete LeBrun has this to say:

Trade talk is finally on the uptick in the NHL, several GMs told ESPN.com Saturday, but there still is the sense most transactions will drag out until closer to the Feb. 28 deadline. As always.

"The chatter has picked up tremendously," a Western Conference GM told ESPN.com Saturday.

Ottawa is a good place to start. Sens GM Bryan Murray will be as busy as any of his peers as he attempts to bring change to a roster that has greatly disappointed this season.

Center Mike Fisher, signed through 2012-13 at a $4.2 million cap hit, is a popular name when other teams phone the Senators these days. His no-movement clause expired last summer, so the Sens are free to deal him. They aren't shopping him, but other teams sure are interested. It would take a pretty good offer to move him. But he's not an untouchable. I believe the Nashville Predators are among the many teams that covet Fisher.

The most obvious player to move is Chris Phillips, a UFA July 1. Phillips and Murray have recently chatted, the GM asking the veteran defenseman to get back to him by the end of next week on whether he'd waive his no-trade clause. Montreal and Boston are among several teams that have shown interest, league sources told ESPN.com. The Habs make sense for him because his family wouldn't even have to move for now with the Canadiens just 90 minutes down the highway. The Bruins have obvious connections with former Senators teammate Zdeno Chara and GM (and former Sens executive) Peter Chiarelli.

Because Edmonton would have to take something back to balance the salary - and they may not want to do that.

Question is -- how do they know that Murray asked that of Phillips.. unless they were in the room to listen to the conversation. I just don't some of these so-called reporters knowing things like that. Was LeBrun there? The leak would have to come from Murray or Phillips because I don't imagine anyone else was in that room... but then it could be 'bugged'.
