I've been told that both Phillips and Fisher have at least been approached about the possibility of a trade. Both are apparently hesitant about the idea but that's to be expected for two guys that have been with the organization for so long.

If Phillips is a Senator after February 28th, I will be stunned.
He has that NTC...

I took that into consideration.

You guys should probably lower the expectations juuuuuuuuuust a lil bit. WE ain't getting any 1st round pick, there's not 1 tradable player in the roster that can fetch a 1st.
I'm guessing something along Zach Hamill or at best a 2nd rounder.

For the record, all I said was I would be shocked if Phillips wasn't traded. But I don't think your quote was referring to my post anyway.

at best a 2nd rounder? I'm thinking at worst a 2nd rounder to be honest, otherwise it's just not worth trading the guy away and possibly losing him this summer.

I'll wait to see what the market fetches thank you before I set my expectation level.

If we set the market then I want a 1st for Phillips...no cap hit past this year, low cap hit for the remainder and he's been a warrior when he's been in the playoffs.

THere are a lot of teams who are starting to press the cap even for next year, having a guy be able to play lots of minutes and defensively in the playoffs and not cost you next year on the cap is attractive to more teams than you think.

Let's see where the markets settles come the trade deadline, otherwise if we're setting it then a late 1st is what I want for Phillips. Remember a 1st rounder may not be truly a 1st rounder if the picks late in the 1st round are the same type of prospects as those in the 2nd and early third. At that point it may be just like trading a 2nd rounder to a lot of teams.

Ottawa did it last year taking Rundblad for our 1st. Murray basically said there wasn't anything of real value at our pick so he'd rather have a player like Rundblad.

Well, you can expect a 1st if you want, but don't be in damage control, all over Murray etc when it won't happen.
Wake up guys, Chris PHilipas has 3 assists and is -23 and has played pretty bad for the most part this year. If you think Murray will convince the other GM on the other side of the phone that that deserves a 1st rounder, then he deserves an oscar. There has been dozens of playoff warriors that were traded that got a 2nd at best, and at least they won the cup before.

I agree with the part where you say that you can expect a first but don't blame murray if he doesn't get it, but you only look at his current stats. NHL GM's are not that short sighted to only consider his current year. THey look at the team, is he underperforming on a good team, is the entire team bad, what is his recent history (last 2years and playoffs).

Then you add to that the fact that a late 1st rounder this year is essentially a 2nd rounder. You'll get a player with the same odds of making the NHL..basically a make work project.

Add all that together and you put a couple of teams against one another and you have the possibility of a 1st. It all depends on where the market gets set.

At least in my mind..

I think the only way we get a 1st rounder is if the rumours are true and we can pit Gauthier vs. Chiarelli in a bidding war, otherwise 2nd + prospect sounds about right to me.

i think you could get a first from a high enough team like the caps. but a team that is struggling to make the playoffs will probably only go as far as a second.

what you might get is a second and another 3rd or second if they re-sign him. i'd bet he resigns with ottawa in july. but it wont be as cheap as if we did it now.

There's always a GM meeting at the same time though. And when you gather all the GMs together, you know their bound to talk trade.

McKenzie is saying that Montreal wants Phillips big time. Cue the war between Boston and Montreal for him - which is awesome because they're both in division, so the price is higher to begin with.

Thanks goes out to Jacques Martin who obviously hasn't seen Phillips play all that much since 2004.

I heard that Gionta wasn't cutting it as captain and that is why they want Phillips.

A captain should be able to walk around the dressing room and look players in the eyes as they are sitting on the bench.

Can you expand please? I am intrigued as to where you are going with this.

He means Gionta is very short.
