Actually we're stuck with Kuba in there as well so I doubt we see both Cowen and Rundblad next season. If you are willing to assume Phillips is back then there's room for no one unless Campoli is moved or he walks.

I would bet good $$ that Kuba is moved in the summer - at the latest.

His stock is quite low right now.

I'm still sure that he'll be moved.

The reason why he isn't playing on the wing is simple: our depth at center is god awful. Who do you suggest take that 2nd line C spot? Regin is a bit more talented, but awful on faceoffs. Other than that I don't see.
When CUllen was here they put Fisher a bit on the wings with Alfie.

Not really. And Cullen was the better C option too. More proof that Fisher just doesn't want to play wing. Clouston tried it once, it worked. But for some reason it was never tried again. I think it's entirely possible that Fisher just said "no thanks." By the way, I like Chris Kelly better in that 2nd spot at this point. Why hasn't that been tried more often? It's not like the team has been so successful that it wasn't an option.

Again, for all the shifting that goes on, one constant remains. It should be clear to everyone.

It's quite clear. You think Mikey Fisher is a damned handsome fellow. I love you

Here is Part 1 of Sens Theories by Dwayne, the first in a series of dartboard guesses by Eklund about the Sens and their impending dismantling.

On Phillips...
The Senators are moving him I am told...the two teams who have the most interest right now are the obvious ones...San Jose and Washington...however I have also heard rumblings from Detroit and Minnesota.

more to come...

STD Analysis: Moving him IF he waives his NTC. SJ, Washington, Detroit - he should have quit while he was ahead. Minnesota? Please, Minnesota is the American Edmonton. No one wants to go there.

Special bonus from the King: Also, it's not out of the question that Brian Burke makes a play for Teemu Selanne. In related news, it's not out of the question that I am Eugene Melnyk.

Sooooo.... just like I said, 0% chance Phillips gets moved. Laughing3

I know you're joking and honestly pretty good one. As for Phillips actually staying or going my thoughts are it will have a lot more to do with Phillips and his NTC than anything to do with his impending captaincy.

Totally agree Cap'n. I am just hoping that last night's effort will not make Melnyk think that they have turned the corner and have a chance at a playoff spot. Facepalm

I don't even think that he's that naive.

I think it's entirely possible that he gets traded AND becomes The Alfie's successor as Senators captain.

If Garrioch's article is to believed, Murray has been ordered to dump salary which perhaps is why Philips doesn't have an extension in place yet.

Eugene has been silent but I imagine his #1 priority is cutting his losses from a non-playoff season, otherwise Philips and the Sens would be talking extension.

Agreed. But significant losses can be cut by getting out of the balance of some salaries for this season. I think it's a clean slate for next year and spending will resume (somewhat at least).

Part 2 of STD:

Also, for the first time I can remember, the Sens may be considering an offer for Daniel Alfredsson. The offer is rumored to be coming from a Western contender..

STD Analysis: First time in....4 years, when Sens fans were calling for the captain's head along with the GM and the head coach? I tend to believe that the captain does not want to leave unless there is a 0% probability of making a run in the next two years (full rebuild).

I'm sure the Sens would consider an offer (only idiots would not), but it would have to be an extraordinary overpayment that would allow the team to contend next year in order for management to consider moving Alfie.

I think I would cry if we traded The Alfie; unless it was a Ray Bourke (+ Tkatchuk) situation ...

Dumping salary at the deadline is fairly difficult these days, if we're going the "younger and cheaper route" as it seems like so far (we're giving auditions to the best prospects in Bingo) I can't see Melnyk spend to the cap again until it's clear if this team is a playoff team for the next few years.

Melnyk only spent to the cap the last few years because he legitimately thought we had a good chance of making the 2nd round. That's no longer the case, I can't see him spending to the cap (which is also going up) when it's 99.9% guaranteed he will lose money on the Sens that year.

Let's not forget we've got the CBA expiring in the not too distant future, from a business point of view it may be smart to commit millions of dollars long term.

I don't want to see him traded either but I also doesn't want to see Alfie playing out his career on a team with no chance of winning it all.

The Eug... remember this?

http://blogs.canoe.ca/offtheposts/general/grey-cup-sunday/

“Put on your seatbelts,” Melnyk told Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliotte Friedman Saturday. “We’re going all the way this year.”

Good times with the Eug.
