If Landeskog is 1st or 2nd on their list (which I think he is but no real proof) then the quality of the prospect is better than than the quantity of 2nd round picks. Pretty sure they can find a way to get the guys they really like in the 2nd round anyways. This draft is a fantastic year to build depth with sure shot NHLers, the depth is fantastic IMO.
oh I agree. we couldn't pick a better year to suck and rebuild. with me beeing out of the country unable to watch the team lose Sarcasm and the amount of good available players. I'm just trying to figure out how else we can get more picks.

I'd say next year is definitely a better year to suck and rebuild, but this year is fine as well.
we might get the chance to do just that also...

Trade up to get Landeskog (6th overall, 2nd round (CHI), 3rd round).
Mark McNeill at 21.
Trade up to get Rocco Grimaldi (35th + BOS 2nd).

Boom, rebuild complete Sarcasm

That's a dream scenario, but not so far out of the relm of possibility it couldn't happen. McNeill with Ottawa's 21st would basically be a complete rebuild. In 5 years Ottawa could potentially have the nastiest 1st line in The NHL.

It's never a good year to suck.

6'1 183 pounds. not bad size either. my money is on this kid if we draft 6th. If we don't pick him i'll be disappointed

Why? Fans shouldn't wish for any guy as they a) don't know how to actually scout players and b) they will most likely be disappointed. Most fans just go by stats and rankings, and then the actual team has their own completely different list. You always see fans wishing for a guy, Dung on the pick they actually get, and then cheer for that pick when they are doing well in the future.

Be happy with anyone they get.

Not ture as I am an exception to that. I wnet out with an NHL/OHL scouts daughter as well as him being my hockey coach. Def know what Scouts look for both the postitive and negative aspects.

I stand by my comment.

I would too on an internet forum, I could 100% be talking out of my Donkey.

and by fans, I'm talking about most non-connected fans like myself (although I feel I am pretty knowledgable when it comes to prospects, and I don't get caught up in rankings and hype).

Look at this prime example of a fan who thinks he knows what he's talking about:

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Columnists/Brennan/2008/06/21/5947311-sun.html

Not to be outdone by his wheeling-and-dealing counterparts, the Senators GM traded up three steps so he could take ... Erik Karlsson?

"Nice way to show your thanks to the fans for their support," said Brian Samuel, a regular ticket-buying customer at Scotiabank Place who was sitting in Level 2 wearing a Senators jersey and surrounded by his buddies in Leafs and Blackhawks colours.

"That's a garbage pick. They could have had him in the second round."

and a quote by Don Brennan:
Karlsson won't play in the NHL for a year or two or three, if he ever does. Real tough to get excited about him now.

That's a Cussing stupid quote. Most players picked at #15 won't be in the league for a year or two anyways. That's why they're picked at #15. Idiot.

Moral of the story, whoever they draft, wait a couple of years until you judge the pick, good or bad.

Aren't they projecting Grimaldi to go where we pick at 21?

I would take McNeill over him 100% of the time and I like Grimaldi at 21.

Only reason I am connected is because I played hockey with a ton of guys who made it pretty far.

I agree though, 90% of fans don't have a clue.

There are some mocks where McNeill is gone before the 11th pick, never happening at 21.

somebody should email Brennan with that quote. i' sure there's enough idiocy coming from him to publish a book.

I think McNeil goes in the top 10, if not 10, 11. Unless he said he would rape people's daughters to the other GM's, no way do guys pass up on the offense and size combo.
