I think McNeil goes in the top 10, if not 10, 11. Unless he said he would rape people's daughters to the other GM's, no way do guys pass up on the offense and size combo.

Oleksiak... just read a little more about him and when they said "Zdeno Chara like size" I perked up.

Here's where it's nice to have a deep first round. We're gonna get a nice player no matter what IMO, whether it's Couturier, Strome, Landeskog, Zib, Hamilton. All really solid. And that 21st overall is a nice player as well. It sucks that we sucked last year, but now we're in a nice position to take advantage.

again 5 years from now i'll make a point to look back at this draft and debate it ad nauseam

The Brennan article pretty much sums up the mood at the time, though. And it's not like he says anything disparaging about Karlsson.

I was at that draft, and the general consensus with EVERYBODY was "Who is Karlsson?"

Brian Samuel, whoever that is, comes across as the idiot.

Anyways, I think a pretty fair deal for the NJ 4th is Ottawa's 6th and 21st for NJ's 4th and 38th.

I could live with that. Guess it all depends on who we want and who goes in the top 3, tho'. If we value one player highly over others, for instance, and he's available at 4, then go for it.

June is such a good time for hockey -- the finals, then the draft, and then the FA period. Buyout period, and last ditch efforts to trade for rights, re-sign, etc., sandwiched in between. Great month!

Agreed. Cheers

Bring on all the trading/signing/drafting shenanigans!

You always go after the player you want, always. Yah, it’s nice getting guys into the system that might play in The NHL one day but The Sens have drafted well enough in the last few drafts that players in the 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds have real shots of making it to The NHL, which would equate to a 2nd round pick.

A guy like Mark Stone is a nice example. He was pegged to be a late 2nd round pick last year at one point but an injury derailed his season. Murray than took a chance with a late pick and he came back better than ever. To me, that’s a 2nd round pick.

Da Costa is another one, that was basically a late 1st rounder, early 2nd. Just more prospects in the system. Wacey Hamilton was more of a 3rd or 4th round pick as well. People forget The Sens added 2 prospects for nothing before the draft, it’s like having 14 picks in this years draft, not just 12. Giving up a 2nd and a 3rd or w/e else for the player they truly feel can lead all those prospects one day, it’s pretty tough to put a price on.

You can only have so many prospects, especially guys that may only be 2nd-4th line guys.

In all honesty though, I would give up 2 or 3 extra picks instead of moving back some 17 spots and out of the first round. You just won't get the quality out of the 2nds and 3rds unless there is some hidden gem The Sens feel 100% certain they will get.

I think the deal you outlined first is the deal they would do (the Devils). I agree, I'd rather give up the 35th overall + a 3rd rounder, but the Devils know we have the 21st, so it'll get tricky.

If the deal you speculated on goes down, we should all be happy. We'll still have 4 picks in the 2nd round and Gabriel Landeskog most likely. That sets us up IMO.

Again, IMO, we're lucky that the teams ahead of us have little use for a gritty leader right now, they're looking for skill, so we might just get our guy at 6 anyway.

I'm thinking of e-mailing that quote to TGOR. They had Brennan on the last couple of days to replace one of the regulars. I think he was there just for them to make fun of how he read the e-mails (probably worse than Angry Al).

What quotes are you emailing? Brennan didn't actually say anything stupid in the article.
