Yes sir. Either Murphy in the top 5, Hamilton in the top 5, Zibby in the top 5, Strome in the top 5. Any of those = big time good news for the Sens. A combination of 2 of those and the Sens are assured a HUGE player without having to trade up.

marakh wrote:I kinda liked that video, we don't know who they like the most but we can guess who they are talking about. When Tim Murray says somehting like "haven't heard about the off ice stuff but on the ice he is a special player", I am 75% sure it's Ryan Strome. He's the only guy in that top 7 that I have heard has character questions with dazzling offensive skills.
They guy who played with an edge last year and not so much this year is probably Couturier.
The defenseman at n 7 (probably in the WHL or OHL) who will be a 4-5 at best, not really sure.
Etc.

Pierre Dorion saying the player who will be the best when he is 22-23 years old is higher on their list so I am guessing potential is N1 priority, and the physical advantage now won't be a factor on who we're gonna take.
And they definitely don't care about Russia Laugh1

Best is the wrong word for this, but funniest moment of the video was definitely Burda talking about scouting in Russia, lol.

It was so off-hand, almost forgotten. You can tell that as long as this scouting staff is around we're going to stray very far away, lol.

I think they should still consider Russians in the CHL though, as they were interested in Burmistrov last year.

Absolutely. Although we've had our share of bad luck with Russian players (and I don't mean Yashin and Kovalev -- I'm talking about all those wasted picks on players who never played in NA for more than a season, if that) it's a huge country and it has all kinds of players coming out of it.

Interesting. I wonder if Murray is in on it?

It might make more sense for them to be listening this year. They have the youth in place, maybe this is the year that they milk another team for some veteran talent. Jeff Carter's NTC doesn't kick in until 2012, correct? Trading Carter (+?) for Edmonton's FRP would make sense for both teams.

No it absolutely doesn't. Anything with Carter as a centerpiece in exchange for the 1st overall by the Oilers is dumb and is the same reason Spezza to Edmonton makes no sense despite their need for a center.

I guess it wouldn't address their need at D, either. Now that I think of it, it made far more sense for Philly than for Edmonton.

It works in theory, just not in practice.

Although if Philly needs to shed Carter I'm sure Edmonton would attempt to throw something nice together.

A name that makes more sense between those teams is Matt Carle I think.

Unless you want to give up Rundblad/Cowen +, then I doubt it.

We're a rebuilding team I don't think we have enough good prospects to be able to trade them for Carter without creating a big hole elsewhere. Cowen better be untradeable on Murray's list Dammit!

And that contract is a huge risk, only a desperate team like Columbus or the Laffs would be silly enough to take that risk on.

Murray should be patient, work his magic at the draft, maybe make a low risk UFA signing and see how the team does this year before "buckling up and going all the way" again.

We're not doing anything except perhaps a 'soft trade' for Versteeg or someone of the like or moving up the draft. No big trades!

Hartnell is another candidate for a 'soft trade.'

Yeah? He has a tough NTC and loves it there and has become one of their only tough players, I wouldn't do that personally. Scoring? The Flyers have a ton of. Big dudes at forward, not so much IMO.

I'd do Versteeg and Carle, re-sign O'Donnell and get another vet on the backend on the cheap, then sign the goalie, but as always...easier said than done.

He's got an NTC which will be harder to pull off (although I'm sure Holmgren will try).
