Man that Breaking bad episode was so good. This is probably the only show I know where the first 2 seasons are pretty meh and the next 3 are crazy good.

I'll say Sons of Anarchy. The first 3 seasons are meh relative to seasons 4 and 5. Still, I like Breaking Bad better.

Was that episode crazy good though? I thought it was kind of average, based on Breaking Bad's high standards, but maybe it was just that I was really tired when I watched it. The confrontation between Hank and Walter was awesome, though. Should be a wild ride to the finish.

Without those first 2 seasons the next 3 are worse than meh. That's the whole point of the show.

I honestly have no idea where everything is going other than an epic battle between Walter and someone... just no clue.

I guess I can't interest anyone in re-watching some Bewitched on Netflix?

You guys should head over to TCF. They've got a poll and thread on who kills Walter White:

The last few episodes of Breaking Bad could go numerous ways, but one thing is certain: stuff is really going to fall apart.

Oh, and for Dexter, do yourself a favour and stop watching after Season 4. It just gets worse, and worse, and worse. The current season (mercifully the last season) is absolutely horrible.

Dexter you can skip seasons 5 and 6 for sure... season 7 was ok but that show should have ended after 6 seasons, would have been way more interesting that way.

I really don't understand the (recent) fascination with violence in TV shows. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying these are bad shows, but:
The Sopranos
SoA
GoT
BB
Dexter
TWD

I'm very likely missing quite a few because, frankly, I don't watch them (of the above, the only one I've seen is TWD).

Then of course there's all the procedurals on the networks (CSI:xxx, Bones, Criminal Minds) which can be very graphic in their content and subject matter.

What's happened to shows like Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, Journeyman or, going back further, Ally McBeal, Picket Fences. Is it because the economy is still in the crapper? Is it Obama's fault?

I'm currently watching Six Feet Under...it doesn't have much in the way of violence, and it's pretty good. Of course, it is from the early 2000s.

But yeah, all the best shows of late, like you mention, have tons of violence. It just helps make great drama.

Somehow I really like TWD. And it's more than gory, it's pretty violent. Maybe because the violence is comic book style and not "realistic"? Maybe because the setting (zombie apocalypse) is remote enough to not make it feel real. For some reason I was never into shows like The Sopranos, Dexter, Breaking Bad -- organized crime and and a hero who is a serial killer, not really my cup of tea.

The organized crime thing goes back to when I was 12/13, and we were in Italy for 18 months after leaving Russia. The Godfather was the big movie at the time, advertised everywhere. When my dad explained to me what The Mafia/Cosa Nostra were I was freaked right out (we were *living* right there!) and I guess that was that. Never watched any of the Godfather movies start-to-finish, never watched Casino or Goodfellas, or Miller's Crossing. My wife used to love those movies but I'd never watch with her.

I think with guys like Tony Soprano, Walter White (Breaking Bad), and Dexter, you're not supposed to think that they are the "heroes" of the show, so much as just the main characters.
