Speaking of Sorkin, I wanted to get into The Newsroom but I've missed too many episodes.
Newsroom is Sorkin? Didn't know. Maybe I'll check it out. Although to be honest, I loved The American President and Sports Night, but I could never get into West Wing and although I really, really tried to like Studio 60 I just couldn't. It was just a little too clever for its own good -- I don't follow US politainment so too much of what they were saying was missed by me, and I just didn't care enough to try and figure it out. I like a well turned phrase more than the average TV viewer. I hate shows with laugh tracks and as a result I always watch with captions on (easy to miss what's being said). However I find some shows -- while very intelligent and witty -- to require some specific knowledge in order to fully understand the wit. Sorkin sometimes does that. 30 Rock is another (especially last season). Community -- although it doesn't go down the political trail, very often can be way over someone's head if they do not know the pop culture item they are satirizing or imitating (it's mostly films and tv shows so I am usually fine). I certainly don't remember that feeling watching Firefly, yet I always felt it was one of the best written shows I've ever watched.
