Mr. D is horra-awful. If you like awkward humour, it's for you. I don't.

That's the point it's so awkward it's funny, lighten up guys.

Speaking of inaccurate portrayals of teachers, have you ever seen an accurate one? From Welcome Back Kotter to Breaking Bad -- were any of these realistic?

Gabe Kotter was not necessarily a realistic teacher but he did remind me of a relative. Did I ever tell you about my Uncle Gabe SensFan?...

I get that it's the point, that's his style, I just don't enjoy that kind of humour at all... gives me a headache.

Game of Thrones.

Also, if anyone hasn't watched the three seasons of Deadwood, do it. Great western-themed show. Greatgreatgreat.

I tried. Really boring show with way too much useless swearing. Doesn't match the time period.

Yeah, the dialogue is a lot to take. It's structured very uniquely, and is chock full of swearing. I personally find it hilarious.

I have a hard time calling it "boring" though...lots of things going on, and I find it hilarious myself.

You want a great Western show with excellent dialogue? If you don't mind a little Chinese and outerspace stuff thrown in, check out Firefly. Just one season -- this is where BIHF (Burn in Hell, Fox) comes from. Seen it 4 times already. Almost due for another re-watch. I'll look for it on blu ray when I get the new TV -- that'll be plenty of reason to re-watch.

If you're into getting TV series on DVD/BluRay, Future Shop has some decent deals, made even better by BestBuy *not* having these deals. The first two seasons of Fringe, on blu ray, are available for $20 each at FS. Best Buy has them for $80, so a price match brings it down to $14 (competitor price less 10% of the $60 difference). Same price for the seasons 1-4 of Chuck (BB price is not $80 but it's still high enough to make it worthwhile to price match). Several seasons of Smallville and Supernatural and a few others. Worth checking out.

For Chuck it's S1-4 (S5 is not on sale -- it's $40). Oh, and the sale is only on until the end of the month.

I recently got Netflix and we've been watching Primeval. It's a show that pretty much the whole family can enjoy. Our girls are 9 and one of them does find it scary. We've had to change to watching it before supper rather than after. The only bad thing is there's no subtitles on Netflix for some stuff (including this) and you really need it (it's a BBC production, some fairly thick accents). Shows' not great but it's good. Apparently based on the same book that Terra Nova was based on (both deviated from book in different ways), but much better than Terra Nova (except maybe for some uneven creature effects).

After I heard they
Spoiler:
in the first episode of Game of Thrones Season 2 me and my wife were officially done with the show.

I just can't watch stuff like that anymore.

Felt some of that with the mini-series that started off BSG. But there was no-more of that after that. Could be the same in GoT, although I've never seen any and very unlikely that I ever will. Don't like man-on-man ruthlessness like that. Never could stomach mob movies/shows either.

It just seems it's all for shock value sometimes, I don't mind it as long as it doesn't seem senseless but a lot of stuff really crosses the line for no other reason than "Hey we're HBO we can get away with this"

I don't subscribe to HBO and because of that I don't have direct access to watching their shows. I do know how to use bittorrent but for one reason or another never went out of my way to get any of their shows. One reason, obviously, is I have a large family and it's nearly impossible to watch something without it, somehow, being noticed by my 15-year-old. He gets home at 3, nearly an hour before the rest of the kids, so he has free reign of the house. He's watched pretty much all the shows we record -- why, oh why, can you *not* have different folders for recordings by different users, with folder-level PINs, instead of a single PIN for controlling everything on the PVR? But that's a thought for the other thread.

Anyhow, back to my point. Even before we had kids we didn't seek out those shows. There was Dream On and Larry Sanders (I *think* Larry Sanders was HBO), and both were carried by (I think) CTV one of their 11 PM slots. My wife also got into Nip/Tuck for a couple of seasons -- another HBO show, I think. Come to think of it, all of that was either before we had kids or when the ones we had were young enough to just go to bed by 9. I miss those days.

To be fair, you don't actually see the baby getting killed...and it's tied into an on-going storyline, so it's not entirely unnecessary to have "shown" it. In general, though, Game of Thrones has had some of the most graphic/intense scenes I've ever seen on a TV show.

Like the first season, I find that season 2 is beginning to drag on, but no doubt all the Dung is about to hit the fan again, building to a crazy finale.

Have you been able to watch any shows with subtitles on netflix, or just this show? cuz netflix definitely offers subtitles in the shows I watch

I freely admit I am just too sensitive for that kind of stuff given that I have a 9month old at home. Still it made me wonder why I watch the show. My wife accidentally read some spoilers from the books and that kind of killed it as well.
