NBC cancels 30 Rock, Community and Parks & Recreation. They will get 13 episodes next season to wrap up.

Sucks for 30 Rock, huge fan. Love that show. P&R I just started getting into and enjoyed. Community I never got into or could care less about.

You are *just* getting into Parks & Rec? They've been hitting on all cylinders last three seasons. I'll definitely miss it. What is NBC thinking about!

30 Rock -- loved it in S2, then S3 was a big let down. Then it picked up again but, lately, just inconsistent. Please don't tell me you "loved" the Queen of Jordan episodes. And even the live show was so-so. Although it was fun seeing John Hamm in a completely different role.
Tell you what, I'll miss what it used to be.

As for Community, I think it's gone downhill this season. Running out of fresh ideas, it seems. Again, I'll miss what it once was.

My sit-com slate is getting decimated.

The Live Shows were a great touch - first time I have seen that integrated into a sitcom. And I only saw the East shows, not the West, so they tended to be slightly different.

S2 of 30 Rock was during the strike and was only 15 episodes. I can say that S1-3 are really good. There are a few I like less than others, but as I said I have seen them probably 10x through each season. I've only seen S4 2 or 3x, and 5 and 6 once.

Yeah I will have to start P&R over (i think it is on netflix). So far I have really enjoyed it.

That being said, I agree... what the hell is NBC doing? (aside from pissing off fans).

And there are rumours Fox is going to cancel a bunch fo shows too, like Fringe and Alcatraz.

Ever hear of I Love Lucy and the The Honeymooners? Like most "new" ideas in Hollywood, they are just rehashing stuff done 50 years ago.

Maybe I'm mis-remembering things. What season are we on? If this is S6 then I meant S3.

Fringe is renewed for a final, shortened season. Alcatraz is officially canceled. Family Guy, Cleveland Show and Simpsons are all coming back (haven't watched them in years; never watched Cleveland).

Ausiello/Mitovich's new website (TVLine.com) has the "scorecard" of what's renewed, canceled or on the bubble:

NBC is making some very puzzling moves. I keep saying how shows like Seinfeld and Cheers were not in the top 10 until their third season. You have to nurture a show in order to get it to that 100-episode threshold for syndication. I think there are a couple reasons networks act so differently now:
1. DVD sales has more than replaced syndication; you can sell a 1, 2 or 3-season show on DVD very easily, whereas syndication usually implied you needed 100 episodes. So there is less incentive to keep a show around that long.
2. Fewer shows are being produced by the network. If you cancel a show produced by a third party you don't care about the sunk-costs like sets.

What is Mr. D?

Anyhow, this is what I'll be watching come the new Fall season. A new show from J.J. Abrams. It'll either be really, really good, or it will start great like Heroes and fall apart in S2, or it will never deliver on expectations like The Event or Flash Forward, or even Terra Nova. But come Fall, I'll be watching it:

CSI: Miami gets cancelled... no more Horatio Caine! Hyaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! For some reason, CBS renews Two and a Half Men. That show has totally tanked since Sheen left. We've stopped watching it.

So happy about Miami, though I'd probably still watch it if on. I just hated Carusso. He killed the show.

2 1/2 men is still funny, so I think. I still watch it. Jake is hilarious, and Alan's self-deprecation is funny too.

I watch it, but at the same time it is a horribly inaccurate portrayal of teachers, and none of them would have a job in real life. But on the other hand, it wouldn't be funny.

Again, what is Mr. D? Is that the actual name of the show or is 'D' actually a longer full last name? And what network is it on?

Speaking of inaccurate portrayals of teachers, have you ever seen an accurate one? From Welcome Back Kotter to Breaking Bad -- were any of these realistic?

"Mr. D" is the name of the show that is on CBC. It stars Gerry Dee, as a phys-ed teacher. In the show his character's full name is Gerry Duncan, but to be cool he wants to be known as Mr. D.

Gabe Kotter was not necessarily a realistic teacher but he did remind me of a relative. Did I ever tell you about my Uncle Gabe SensFan?...
