In Murray's defense:

-who thought Phillips would suck?

-who thought Regin wouldn't be able to score?

-who thought Foligno wouldn't be able to score?

-who thought Mike Fisher...wait, forget that one

-who thought Michalek would be injured and fairly useless?

-who thought Kuba would come back and reek?

-who thought Alfie would age so much in 2 years?

-who thought Clouston would forget how to coach?

Michallica wrote:really? how is the campoli/comrie trade not his worst move? he gave up an extra first rounder for campoli/comrie, and comrie was garbage and wasn't under contract for the year after. He shouldn't have had to give up a late 1st for campoli, no sireee bob.

That trade ended up being pointless for the season, actually moved them down a couple of draft picks, we could have drafted a forward along with Cowen, or really packaged heatley in an awesome deal at the deadline considering we had an extra first (and with heatley d-bag's blessings).

Anyways, that was my vote. HM to Kuba signing. And the worst move is arguably the one he didn't make....to acquire Dan Boyle
It harder to predict the outcome/impact when picks are involved and we're speculating about what could have come of a pick. I hated the Kovalev signing with a passion when it happened and nothing Kovalev has done since has made me think otherwise. It pisses me off to no end to this day and I'm sure it will continue to bug me for years.

Serenity now... serenity now...

well Kovalev's time is almost over in Ottawa....if the sens don't turn this around by January 1st, I don't see Kovalev lasting here past the trade deadline.

with the campoli trade, the senators will never know what they could have had with that 1st rounder. Oh well, no sense in picking apart past moves, it just makes my eyes bleed.

Time to move on.

I like Campoli, I think he was worth a late 1st personally. I wouldn't mind keeping him longterm actually. He plays tough, he can move the puck, he can play the PP. Essentially, I think he can take over for Kuba when we trade him.

For YEARS this team has misdiagnosed their problems. Campoli was the answer to the "need" for a "PMD". Facepalm

No one bothered to ask why that need became so glaring so suddenly and why Redden magically started to suck. Because of the forwards, not the Cussing D!!!

Redden could just use his "elite first pass" Facepalm to one of the gaggle of speedy, skilled forwards on the team and rack up the freebee assists. As those forwards moved on, no one bothered to fix THAT problem, they wanted to blame the D and kept trying to fix a problem that was never really there while our forwards remained mediocre.

Solution? Fix the forwards by surrounding "core" players instead of finding new "core" players that can actually play and leveraging that new blood to help our youngsters along... I'm just gonna stop now.

Facepalm

I think they relied on too much out of Regin and Foligno for this year. I was expecting about 30 points out of each. Alfie had a long goal or pointless streak last year so I'm not surprised about his inconsistency. He'd also be better if his teammates could do anything. Kuba (my vote for worst move) is a non-factor. He's not completely horrible but I bet Murray would like a do-over from deadline day 2009.

1. i have no problem wit the gonchar on this team. yes he's having a tough time, but he's not got malkin or crosby to make those passes to. let's get some real forwards next year and re-evaluate this one.

i picked hartsburg, bad type of coach for the type of team we had. his game plan was not suited to the players on the team. he was thinking defense when the team was geared for offense.

my second choice was kovalev. i've said many times bfore that we were going to regret it. i hated his attitude in MTL and he proved worse in ottawa. basicaly kovy knows best, and nothing will make him change/improve.

I wasn't sold on Regin/Foligno. Foligno needs to bring a consistent effort, and Regin's quick-trick in the playoffs didn't fool me. His regular season was nothing to write home about.

SpezDispenser wrote:

Actually I was quite concerned about both Michalek and Kovalev coming off those surgeries. Michalek has had, what, three major operations now? And speed being a huge component of his game made me very, very afraid.

Can't disagree about the others.

I voted Paddock.
To me, that started all the Heatley saga.
