And we traded Havlat for nothing? How far can you go back with that logic?

Honestly, I don't think that's what's happening, I think people are making lazy arguments. Which, for the record, is infuriating since you can easily make a strong argument that Murray has made some bad moves.

EDIT: If we're assuming that people claim that such a trade as "Campoli for a 1st" EVER took place is because of what remains from that trade, then instead of "Trading 2 2nd round picks for Sutton/Cullen," it should read "Trading 2 2nd round picks for air."

For the record, I was not defending that argument - just pointing out the fallacy in the argument.

I think the real answer is all of the above. It's not just one bad move - you can't win them all and certainly one poor judgment move could be forgotten if there were many positive moves made, but in this case, there are too many poor decisions to defend him any longer. Changes need to be made, and not just in the office.

Fair enough. Sorry. It bothers me because I've commented on the same thing (the Campoli for a 1st) a few times. Pet peeve I guess.

Agreed. The sum total of his trades and signings have been pretty awful. He replenished the prospect cupboard, but as far as his vision for the team goes:

I put my two cents in...for the Gonchar signing, even though a case could be made for several of the choices.

I've never ever liked this signing and have been critical of it since the minute it was announced. Two more years of this Dung? Yippie.

He capitalized on a good run and convinced the Euge to fire Mucker-upper, when the Euge should have kept him as Coach and not hired a neutered GM.

really? how is the campoli/comrie trade not his worst move? he gave up an extra first rounder for campoli/comrie, and comrie was garbage and wasn't under contract for the year after. He shouldn't have had to give up a late 1st for campoli, no sireee bob.

That trade ended up being pointless for the season, actually moved them down a couple of draft picks, we could have drafted a forward along with Cowen, or really packaged heatley in an awesome deal at the deadline considering we had an extra first (and with heatley d-bag's blessings).

Anyways, that was my vote. HM to Kuba signing. And the worst move is arguably the one he didn't make....to acquire Dan Boyle

Replacing himself as coach after going to the Finals. Mind you, that wasn't really his decision but still. I thought that was probably the worst move and it just went downhill from there.

If I were to have 3 choices, these would be it;

1. Replacing himself as coach
2. The Heatley saga, all bad from having the word get out to who we got for him...etc...
3. Hiring coaches that didn't know what the heck they were doing and then firing them and hiring another coach that seemed to not know what he was doing even though he did...

I was hoping Gonchar would work out for us, I still have patience with him though, I think things will get better eventually...I hope anyway. I can't give him too much Dung for that because he went out and got us what we needed. Who knew we were also going to need another scorer?

No one just thinks in general that Murray has no idea what he is doing ?

After the SCF run (and Paddock) we were not defensive enough so he hired Fartsburg (defence first coach).

That didn't work so he hired CC whose aggresive forechecking style was to be a better fit for the team. That seemed to work.

For this year he wanted more offence and puck movement so he let A-train go and got Gonchar, and we're clearly not good enough to play that style of game considering how many odd man rushes we cause and how inconsistent our goaltending is.

It seems he's just making things up as he goes along.

In Murray's defense:

-who thought Phillips would suck?

-who thought Regin wouldn't be able to score?

-who thought Foligno wouldn't be able to score?

-who thought Mike Fisher...wait, forget that one

-who thought Michalek would be injured and fairly useless?

-who thought Kuba would come back and reek?

-who thought Alfie would age so much in 2 years?

-who thought Clouston would forget how to coach?

It harder to predict the outcome/impact when picks are involved and we're speculating about what could have come of a pick. I hated the Kovalev signing with a passion when it happened and nothing Kovalev has done since has made me think otherwise. It pisses me off to no end to this day and I'm sure it will continue to bug me for years.

well Kovalev's time is almost over in Ottawa....if the sens don't turn this around by January 1st, I don't see Kovalev lasting here past the trade deadline.

with the campoli trade, the senators will never know what they could have had with that 1st rounder. Oh well, no sense in picking apart past moves, it just makes my eyes bleed.
