Which as we know still doesn't mean waiver exemption.

Karlsson would be exempted from waivers. Pretty sure neither Foligno or Lee would be, tho'. Foligno for sure -- 200+ games and 4th year in the NHL. I'm a little less clear on Lee -- under 100 games and 4th year in the NHL.

At any rate, I read all this as waaaaaaaaay over-reactionary. The emotion in here is a good thing in its way, but lots of clouded judgments here and lots of "missing the forest for the trees" comments here. Sorry. Just remember I'm not calling anyone "Cussing idiots" before you respond.

I know you are not, but I still refuse to blindly worship Chris Phillips. I know that he used to be reliable as a guy who would normally shut down the opposition, but since even last season, he has not been... good. Forget about the past, forget about Chris Phillips the Philanthropist, but look at the almost 33 year old unrestricted free agent that should not be paid more than he is making now, let alone close to it. I can actually see him being re-signed for as much as he is now, for too long and it biting the team in the butt.

You have to think with your brain and not your heart. The Senators have rewarded guys too many times based on character (Fisher).

What clouded judgment? We are carrying 8 defensemen and are too close to the cap to make any moves. A few of our forwards are playing terribly and could use a game or two watching from a different perspective (literally). Problem is that our roster situation makes it nearly impossible. Does anyone disagree that Fisher should be a couple of maintenance game days? Of course not, but Clouston had mentioned the cap situation as at least *one* reason why he can't do that. When I reeled off the list of names I was only saying that one (or two) of those may be possibilities. I'm not looking at sending someone away for nothing more than an early spot on the next waiver wire possibility, but *some kind* of move to clear a little room in the roster as well as the cap so that moves like Fisher or another player who is not playing up to his abilities or potential can be given a bit of time to reflect and refocus.

While I'm on board with giving Phillips the keys to the press room for a game (except maybe not today) I am just as willing to give him some in the longer term. He's been a rock for us for a decade and you are willing to piss it all away because he is struggling for one quarter season?

Yeah I'm not sure what that was about last night...some random, misplaced anger...my apologies. If it was just some other forum, I wouldn't take the time to come here and read your opinions.

Anyways, sorry again Peter Schaefer Surre

There's validity to posts like that too though, we're still a team, these guys still care, maybe the players needed to read all of this.

Some of you guys have the uber-fan lack of perspective that makes it unbearable to be on internet forums. (yeah yeah.. "if you don't like it don't come here." Cuss. "the most intellligent hockey discussion on the web"? It's just a regular forum. Get over yourselves).

Try acknowledging that these people (including players, trainers, coaches and GMs) do things that you can't. And then acknowledge that your envy clouds your perspective to the point that you feel the right to criticize every move, without giving any relevance to the multitude of variables that each of them has to consider before taking action.

Ah Cuss it. Rant over. I already know the Dung response this will yield... Shrug adios TipHat

Phillips struggles have been longer than just a quarter of a season. I was not impressed with him at all last season either.

The Sens are giving up 30+ shots per game so an extra .10 SV% will give you one less goal every 3 games. Is that really going to change things much? How about taking fewer penalties, giving up fewer shots and actually scoring a few more? Gonchar's influence on Karlsson (and possibly Rundblad) will be felt for years to come. Sure he was a little expensive, but we're the Edmonton of Ontario.

I hate how we played last game, but I remember the hey-days of when we were always in the hunt for the Presidents' Trophy, but whenever the Devils came to town we'd find a way to lose 2-1 and in such a boring fashion that it made you want to stick toothpicks in your eyes.

Whoever is running the PP *has* to be let go or re-assigned. The talent level for a 5-on-4 is just too high for it to be floundering. And the one time that it actually started to click, someone sure found the "Off" switch quickly enough.

Play a more disciplined brand of hockey. Clear some cap space (Lee, Shannon, Hale, Foligno -- he's still on a two-way?) to make room in the doghouse. Take a stupid, selfish penalty? Be prepared to sit at the end of the bench the rest of the period. Do it again in the same game and you're not playing for a couple of days. I want us to play hard, take elbowing or boarding calls but leaving out the hooks, trips, holds and (shudder) too-many-men.

Work on the PP with someone who has a pulse. It should be top-5 in the league.

Give out rewards for taking shots on goal. Something, Anything.

We'd likely lose him on the waiver wire. While it's likely that he's being shopped, or is available at the very least, I don't think BM can justify losing him for nothing.

EDIT: But ya, he's on a two-way.

Lee, Shannon, and Foligno are all on one-way deals. Hale and Karlsson are the only guys with the team at the moment on two-way deals.

According to capgeek, Foligno makes $62500 in the AHL. That, as far as I understand, means he's on a two-way.

I'm glad I logged in today and found this. Always in the back of my mind when I post some opinions, but I never have the balls to come out and directly say it. I'm sure some people have read between the lines with some of my posts, but still.

This is a perfect post.

I'm sure the same certain people will continue to support their opinion by saying, well I watch more hockey than you though and hide behind fancy words. You know who you are, my advice, play hockey once or twice.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with that comment? It's me that came up with that tag line. Should I change it to - GMHockey - Just a regular Forum?

Seriously that kind of comment doesn't endear you to anyone and is really unnecessary.

Most def. You can't even make that much money in the minors on a two-way deal. The cap ceiling for the two-way component of the two-way deal is something like $150K or $200K. Players on one-way deals play in the minors at the full price tag, but if you've got a two-way deal, then the two-way part of the contract has to be under $200K, I believe.

The number that capgeek supplies, that I quoted was $62500. You definitely can make that kind of money in the minors.

Someone calling him a "Cussing idiot", however, is perfectly sensible and acceptable and necessary? Hold everyone to the same standard, not just the ones who say things you don't like or disagree with.
