"It was one of the first times we actually had them on their one-timing sides and they showed what they can do, get the puck off quick," said Senators goaltender Brian Elliott. "Hopefully, we’ll keep using that and we know we have a bunch of different options with our power play. We’ve got a ton of talented guys out there. On any given night, somebody can do the damage and last night, it was those two."

You getting all that, Cory?

The other reason goals are going in on the PP is that they're parking guys in front of the net with Neil and Fisher taking up the cause. I have been saying this ever since they took Neil off the PP. Put him back in front of the net. Finally!!

Maybe with Karlsson and Gonchar shooting the pucks instead of Meszaros and Schubert, as in years past, the forwards won't be as scared to stand in front of the net. On the other hand, when those two were shooting, in front of the net may have been the safest place to stand.

I'd also like to see them do more of the rebound-off-the-boards type of plays -- shoot just wide and have the puck bounce back near the crease. Montreal does that fairly regularly and you can't argue with their success. Similar to that, when there's no opening for a shot from the half-boards, shoot it just wide and let the forward on the other half-board shoot at the (hopefully) open net.

Like I said in the first post of the GDT - This should be just what the doctor ordered for Foligno and Regin to get rid of their goose eggs in the goal department.

Isles have surrendered 13 goals in the last two losses and only scored 3 themselves.

I know Elliott deserves the start but isn't this the perfect game to get Leclaire back in the net?

Yeah, that's very true. The body in front is so crucial, and not everyone knows how to do it. Fisher, Neil, and sometimes Michalek -- that's about it. That's a key to scoring on those point shots, tho', for sure.

Islanders are coming off of a 7-2 loss to Carolina. That could be good or bad for Ottawa. Good that they seem to have porous defence, bad that they might want to take out some frustration on Ottawa.

Milan michalek is the only senator missing from morning skate. Michalek and Filip Kuba, who is on the ice, aren't expected to play

Anything less than a landslide Ottawa win is unacceptable tonight. Yes I expect the Isles to come out strong but they're injured, they played last night (and got blown out) and a lot of their best players are hurt.

6-2 Ottawa win. Neil gets his first, Spezza pops 2.

It's almost imperative to see the guys who haven't gotten their mojo going yet to light up the scoreboard - Spezza, Foligno, Regin.

Agreed. It's also probably the best opportunity they'll have all season to light the lamp.

I demand another good powerplay showing with a goal or two.

With Gonchar and Karlsson, and to a lesser extend Kuba and Campoli we should be top 10 in the league easily.

Gonchar has quietly become #2 in scoring on the team behind Alfie and is on pace for 6G 47A and 53Pts.

Spezza needs to get going and either Regin or Foligno needs to prove they're a top-6 NHL forward.

Lucky for us, the Islanders are one of the most penalized teams in the league and their penalty kill ranks 18th.
