Yeah, at the expense of, say, Cowen + Runblad + Lehner, or thereabouts? No thanks, huge.

I think I need a break from this place. It's making my head hurt to read this stuff.

It takes time, too, for a team to get together. Be concerned about the start to the season we've had, for sure -- but to suggest seriously that 'this is end, time to blow everything up, trade everyone, sign anyone else than the players we have because they're all crap' is soooooooooo myopic.

Think back to how you felt about this team two months ago, breathe deep, and take the long, wide view. 74 more games on the season.

Thank God someone said it. I'm damn near disgusted with what's being said.

Here's my problem with this team. I knew we would be a bubble team, and with the East being not being as competitive as the West, I thought that would put the team anywhere from 6-11/12. I think I projected a 6th place finish but being very close to the guys in 7th, 8th and so on. With a poor start (and if they don't start stringing together consecutive wins soon), it will just be even tougher to make the playoffs.

If they are still chugging along at this sort of "win, lose, win, lose, win, lose" rollercoaster type pace until Christmas, then it would probably be best to just throw in the towel (if they are a longshot to make the playoffs by then, I mean).

The Leafs always had this problem. They played like crap for most of the year but then started playing very well at the end of the year, but then it was just too late and they missed out on the playoffs and lost out on a chance to grab a greatplayer at the draft. I don't this to happen to the Sens.

So in short, time to throw in the towel? No, obivously not. But is it time to worry a bit? Absolutely. It's clear that the team needs some sort of retooling, and I'm not just saying that because of this year's start.

I could see Murray picking up Souray on reentry waivers if he has a legit shot at him. Then trade a couple of pieces to Edmonton for some young pieces, prospects or picks in order to clear the cap space for Souray....just a thought.

Problem with that is, we've been down that road before. The team has been inconsistent at the best of times and now we're seeing more and more games where there's nothing going right for them. No passes, no chemistry, no speed.

They don't have long to pull it together, there might be 75 games left, but the way the Sens are playing, I'd say there's 20 games left to completely turn it around - with no less than 13-7 as a reasonable number. Otherwise it's a hole that's too hard to get out of (as we've seen personally).

Pretty much the way I feel as well. Besides, people don't really have to worry, who's taking Kuba, Ruutu, Kelly, Leclaire now? Even Phillips would be hard for a contender to fit in. By January we'll know if this team is a pretending or not - and something will have to be done one way or the other I assume.

i am going to get flamed for this, but missing the playoffs and being a seller on trade deadline day might be what we need. I would imagine we could get some decent picks/prospects on the deadline for guys like rutuu, neil, kelly, kuba, phillips, or even kovalev. Combine that with getting a decent pick in the draft plus, the money we would have in the summer and we have a mini-retool to move forward.

I take offense to this. Just because you see that your team has some issues, you're a wagon jumper? It's called being realistic.

I am still cheering for them win or lose.

See, I would not mind at all for this to happen. Should we try for that to happen though? No. I'd say the only guy out of those you mentioned that I wouldn't trade at the deadline if we were "sellers" would be Phillips.

i don't see us selling neil either. phillips, maybe. phillips would get us the best retrun out of most of these.
anyways the season is still young, and we could turn it around. we might be looking for a defensive D but i think bringing up butler might also do a world of good.

I'm certainly not ready to blow it up, and I don't think we really could anyways... if we're stuck at 2 wins by the 10-game mark... I will be very concerned... the 20-game mark will be the next focus... and we'll go from there. I'm not sure what people are expecting Murray to do... architect a 6-team 30-player trade to suddenly make us a cup contender this year? Ridiculous. Murray's brought in a significant piece in Gonchar... Kuba will be back soon... the team needs to gel, they're still not playing as a team. With Kovalev and Leclaire off the books (assuming we don't re-sign) next season Murray has some flexibility... and it's gonna have to start at the draft to by shifting focus to forward prospects.

The only guy here wanting to blow it up is SSF... and I think he's talking about his inflatable doll.

Sarcasm

Heh heh.

And this talk of the Murray death watch is also ridiculous.

Not as ridiculous as you may think. Some of the stuff Murray has done/said lately reeks of desperation. The whole Spezza debacle in the summer, and now the talk of a trade to shake things up. Sounds like a GM who at least *thinks* he is on borowed time.
