Heh. Yeah, the price would have been huge... I was dreaming in la-la no-cap land...rooneypoo wrote:shabbs wrote:Kessel would have looked good in a Sens uniform...Number Twenty Nine wrote:Looks like Burke > Murray right now and makes me ill.
Yeah, at the expense of, say, Cowen + Runblad + Lehner, or thereabouts? No thanks, huge.
I think I need a break from this place. It's making my head hurt to read this stuff.

There's only so much GMs can do... and change takes time...

Thank God someone said it. I'm damn near disgusted with what's being said.

It takes time, too, for a team to get together. Be concerned about the start to the season we've had, for sure -- but to suggest seriously that 'this is end, time to blow everything up, trade everyone, sign anyone else than the players we have because they're all crap' is soooooooooo myopic.
Think back to how you felt about this team two months ago, breathe deep, and take the long, wide view. 74 more games on the season.

I think I projected a 6th place finish but being very close to the guys in 7th, 8th and so on. With a poor start (and if they don't start stringing together consecutive wins soon), it will just be even tougher to make the playoffs.
If they are still chugging along at this sort of "win, lose, win, lose, win, lose" rollercoaster type pace until Christmas, then it would probably be best to just throw in the towel (if they are a longshot to make the playoffs by then, I mean).
The Leafs always had this problem. They played like crap for most of the year but then started playing very well at the end of the year, but then it was just too late and they missed out on the playoffs and lost out on a chance to grab a greatplayer at the draft. I don't this to happen to the Sens.
So in short, time to throw in the towel? No, obivously not. But is it time to worry a bit? Absolutely. It's clear that the team needs some sort of retooling, and I'm not just saying that because of this year's start.

I would imagine we could get some decent picks/prospects on the deadline for guys like rutuu, neil, kelly, kuba, phillips, or even kovalev. Combine that with getting a decent pick in the draft plus, the money we would have in the summer and we have a mini-retool to move forward.
i don't see us selling neil either. phillips, maybe. phillips would get us the best retrun out of most of these.Big Ev wrote:111519 wrote:i am going to get flamed for this, but missing the playoffs and being a seller on trade deadline day might be what we need. See, I would not mind at all for this to happen. Should we try for that to happen though? No. I'd say the only guy out of those you mentioned that I wouldn't trade at the deadline if we were "sellers" would be Phillips.
I'm certainly not ready to blow it up, and I don't think we really could anyways... if we're stuck at 2 wins by the 10-game mark... I will be very concerned... the 20-game mark will be the next focus... and we'll go from there. I'm not sure what people are expecting Murray to do... architect a 6-team 30-player trade to suddenly make us a cup contender this year? Ridiculous. Murray's brought in a significant piece in Gonchar... Kuba will be back soon... the team needs to gel, they're still not playing as a team. With Kovalev and Leclaire off the books (assuming we don't re-sign) next season Murray has some flexibility... and it's gonna have to start at the draft to by shifting focus to forward prospects.rooneypoo wrote:shabbs wrote:Heh.
