If you resign Phillips (to a friendly contract) then Kuba has to go. With Gonchar, Karlsson firmly entrenched in the top 4 for the next two years a physical big body presence is needed. Neither Kuba nor Phillips brings that, so one has to go. Phillips is part of the culture here and no trade needs to be made, so that's why I chose Kuba (not to mention Karlsson and Kuba play fairly well together).

That's what I mean by culture change. These kids, like Butler, can't be affected by anything happening up here, because if he dogs it for one second, he's back down to Bingo. Butler keeps two pucks in his hockey bag at all time, one of them is from his first pro game that he scored as a reminder that he's come this far - and to continue working. That's what we need.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's fast, smart and has lethal offensive instincts. Name me one player on the Sens who has all three of those attributes. Spezza maybe? That's about it.

Don't forget to add "winner" to Butler.

Not sure if you know this about Spezza or not, but name me the last team Spezza won a championship on? Don't waste too much time looking.

Sounds like what's happening anyway. We HAVE to make an assessment on Butler now, can he hack the NHL, does he need more time, how much time? We need to see him.

And if he can light it up, then that's one hole filled in the top six - with another mean sniper to come hopefully. Then this team can be back, infused with Cowen, perhaps with an upgrade on Phillips if he's still defective. As long as Clouston has them hopping every game with an exciting game plan that is - something that we haven't seen much of this year at all.
Bringing up Butler may appease you and I as fans, but he really needs to grow as a professional. I don't see a downside in his career development by leaving him in the AHL at least until mid to late January, if not all year.

I've had Kuba's bags packed this upcoming summer for quite some time. Thought it may have been done last summer frankly.

Sutton's playing pretty poorly in Anaheim, but his cap hit is much better. Kuba for Sutton straight up? Laugh1

Oh yes, we heard this quite a bit back in the day that Spezza had never won anything. Right now, can you blame him for not winning with the Sens? For the last 3 of 4 years, he's had precious little to work with - and he's just starting to mature into a real hockey player - not just the flash and dash that he once was.

In all seriousness, what has Butler won? Did he win the Frozen Four?

We can do it Ogle, this is what these guys have to go through. He gets called up, spends 10-20 games up here, gets a taste, the coaching staff and GM can make an assessment, then he goes back down to the AHL if he needs further seasoning. It's been a calling card for almost every college/university signing, they always spend time in the minors, then see limited NHL action - Penner, Kunitz, MacDonald, they all did.

What the Sens need is Shean Donovan.

Yeah, it's time Bobby gets a look. Please sort this Lee thing out once and for all Murray - this is ridiculous.

I'd prefer a big bodies Dman who can skate a little.

I personally never once had any issues with Sutton's mobility when he was here. I'm not really sure where he got that knock from?

I also seem to remember Sutton and Karlsson being a really effective D pairing as well until the playoffs of course. The thing is that pairing was out matched and was forced into situations they weren't prepared for due to injuries.

The only thing I noticed with Sutton was that he was cautious to hit anyone after that one incident. It is really his fault that his elbow is the same height as most player's head? Laugh1

Apparently Lee just got waived. Get on over to the TIDBITS thread.

Let me re-phrase. I'd prefer a big bodied Dman who can turn his hips and not getting beaten to the outside by players of average speed.

That's call 'The Carkner' for future reference. Wink
