When has Spector said anything different? Laugh1

Not that he's Eklund-esque since I'm sure he's at least semi connected but 95% of the time Spector is just killing trade rumours.

With the low number of trades that actually happen in the NHL today it's "safe" to say that nothing will happen.

Are you 100% sure about Penner? That's a lot of loot for a guy who's not very fast and can be ultra-streaky as a goal scorer. I'd rather wait and check the options in the off-season or see what teams are dumping when they realize they're too close to the cap.

For example - and I'm not saying we should get him - Lecavalier won't be a Lightning past this season IMO. Not with Stamkos coming up etc. etc. But he's declined so much, the Lightning probably won't be able to move him with his salary.

Still there will be opportunities aplenty - even with the cap going up 3.5-4 million.

I think Ottawa will start a self-imposed "cap" if that happens. Mind you, with some pretty significant salaries leaving, I still see us adding ONE big ticket in the off-season.

Penner would be one of the faster forwards on the Sens, he's definitely not slow, inconsistent and streaky yes, but not slow.

Is it time for me to go all SF56 and mention Richards or Parise again.

A little on the fat side, according to reports.

Is he fast? I didn't realize that - seriously, every time I've watched the Oil, that's what's struck me, granted I don't watch them all the time.

You might as well add Crosby in there if we're talking about Parise. He's not going anywhere.

Now Brad Richards....that would be nice. Or Alex Semin. His 17 goals and 4th in points in the league would look quite nice on the Sens.

I keep hearing that, but I honestly don't think he stays. It would cost a ton to get him to Ottawa, but I'd throw an offer sheet at him for around 7.5M. I think he is the ideal replacement for Alfie. He's a proven winner and has come through in the clutch over and over again.

I wouldn't classify him as fast, especially considering his teammates, but he'd have above average speed on our team.

But why would the Devils do that Ogle? That's the question. Forget about all their issues this year, Lou still holds the rights to Parise no matter what. If someone is to offer an offer sheet, why wouldn't he match?

With the upcoming bump in salary cap, the Devils can hold onto both him, Zajac and Kovalchuk with little to no problems. Arnott's deal expires, so that's 4.5 million that goes to Parise, couple with his salary now = 7.5 million, almost exactly. So you take out Arnott, replace him with a Brendan Morrison style stop-gap, or you reach into your minors and try to replace him internally, but you don't let Parise go.

Look how BAD the Devils were when Parise was injured at the start of the year - they were an abortion of a team. When Parise comes back, I for one am starting to get scared that the Devils will be quite good again.

IF Parise is traded - and really, the NJ franchise is dead if they do IMO - it would have to be for something like Shea Weber - a franchise changing D-man to replace all the little pieces of Dung they call defence there right now, but I still don't see a reason or a need for him to be moved.

This is all just IMO, but I feel strongly that he will NOT be moved.

This team's inability to string wins together lately definitely isn't going to quell the trade talk.

Yeesh.

If Parise can't co-exist with Kovalchuk then he will be gone, either by trade or offer sheet. Kovy is a Devil for life. Lou is a smart hockey man, if the right deal comes along he will make the deal.

But what's the right deal for a franchise player like Parise?

You're right Spez, Parise isn't going anywhere.

Quite frankly, this summer is shaping up to be a brutal one in terms of FA forwards (ie. what we need). I have a feeling Dallas will sort out their ownership and re-up B. Richards - he apparently loves it there.

I can see Semin signing with someone like the Kings.

If we have a new GM, he will have to get creative via trade this summer - not free agency.

Just in case it hasn't been mentioned, here's all the Senators free agents at the end of this season:

UFAs:
Alex Kovalev
Jarkko Ruutu
Ryan Shannon
Chris Phiilips
David Hale
Pascal Leclaire

RFAs:
Chris Campoli
Brian Elliott

My best guess is this:

UFAs:
Alex Kovalev - gone
Jarkko Ruutu - gone
Ryan Shannon - gone
Chris Phiilips - re-signed
David Hale - re-signed
Pascal Leclaire - gone

RFAs:
Chris Campoli - 50/50 he stays/ he's gone.
Brian Elliott - re-signed
