The San Jose Sharks have extended Captain Joe Thornton to a three year deal, worth $21M. Thornton will take a $200K discount from the $7.2M he is making this season.

A bit of a discount, I suppose, but he's still making more than Spezza, and I'm not entirely convinced he should be. Especially when you take into consideration the tax situation down there, versus up here.

Exactly the same cap hit starting next year.
Dash wrote:Already beaten to it, but yeah it's the same cap hit for Spezza. Thornton's produced more points than Spezza, but for the age difference, some could say Spezza's a better deal. All depends on Spezza being able to produce at a Thornton rate.

We'll see how he does now that Heatley's legs are wearing down -- he'll be like Cheechoo, soon.
