It really depends. For all we know Leclaire gets hurt week 1, Elliott and Lehner split time, and Lehner takes over by season's end. I mean, the logical move is to not hit the panic button just yet. As of this moment, I'd be in zero rush to re-sign Leclaire. He's going to have to perform miracles and cease his opportunities if Ottawa is to re-sign him. That being said, Vokoun can be had for Kovalev money next year without giving up an asset. If the Sens seriously think they're contenders this year (which I don't think they are) then I'd be okay with giving up one of Gryba, Rundblad, Cowen or Wiercioch if a move to improve the franchise long-term presents itself. A year in the AHL will be incredibly beneficial for Lehner but I don't think he lasts more than a couple of months down there. I wouldn't mind him dominating the World Jrs and have him come up after that. Leclaire will for sure be hurt by then!

I think you meant to say "seize his opportunities" but it might be a lot closer to reality the other way. And now I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry.

Expectations now are SCF or consider the season a failure.

Absolutely. The Caps need a veteran in there just in case. Not sure what they're doing.

They think that if you try and try again with the same method that you should, according to the saying, succeed - eventually. Too bad things don't work like that in professional sports.

Yeah, they'll miss a major opportunity if they don't get insurance.

Nice quotes from Wamsley:

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Ottawa/2010/10/05/15600161.html

On Lehner:

“I say this to young kids all the time: It’s their job to plant the seed that they can play, it’s management’s job to grow the plant, and then we weed the garden at the right time,” said Senators goalie coach Rick Wamsley.

“He’s planted the seed that he can play. He needs to get more pro experience. So let’s see how fast the plant grows.”

On Leclaire:

“One of the good things about Pascal is not much bothers him,” said Wamsley, who held the same position in Columbus seven seasons ago when Leclaire broke into the league.

“That’s a real asset for a goalie. He gets over stuff really quickly and he gives you the best he’s got every day. All the good ones have the ability to park poor and good performances behind them, and go to work the next day.

“He’s older. He’s more mature. He’s more physically fit than when we drafted him in Columbus. He’s at a point where he’s going to be the best he’s going to be. Guys really mature in this game around 26, 27, 28 ... They’ve had enough lessons, there’s been enough speed bumps. There’s not much more to experience in the game by the time you’ve played it for as long as he has at his level.”

Wamsley seems high on Leclaire and Lehner. Glad he's recommending caution.

Best quotes I've read so far from him. I picked apart a couple he had previously. These I like.

Now if only Leclaire's best was good enough. Meh, it is what it is.

Now, let's go watch Edmonton's kids.

So, what's the talk around town now? How's the rivalry between the two Pennsylvania teams? Getting beat by an unknown rookie on opening night in the new arena -- that's got to sting.

Bobrovsky for the win! 29 saves to boot.

In other news... how bad did Turco look? Eek.

Quote from Malkin, after the game:
"I never see this guy play, never met him," Malkin said. "It's a little bit harder when you don't know how he plays, nothing about him."

It didn't matter to me whether it was Malkin or Crosby, I was just following the game, making sure I stopped every puck.

I'd call that a "fail" on Malkn. Making excuses that he didn't know anything about the goalie? From close enough in, the puck goes a lot faster than a goalie can move to stop it, so there is no guess work -- just put the puck where he ain't and watch the good stuff happen.

I dunno, I know I'm loving it. The local media was practically calling the season theirs before it started. Nice to know Daniel Briere was the first ever to score at Consol and not Crosby... Laughing3

Looks like today... our number 1 is Leclaire.

In the words of Clouston: "He is supposed to be our go-to guy."

Let's hope he is!

GO SENS GO!!!

The insertion of the phrase "supposed to be" speaks volumes about where our goaltending is at right now. Let's hope one of these two guys steps up in short order!

Ten games into the season, when both Leclaire and Elliott have shown no signs of wanting the starter's role:

Brennan: Have you decided on who plays tomorrow night?
Clouston: Yeah, you still have your old pads?

Here's something I didn't know about Leclaire. Doug McLean said that even in Junior he was "always" injured. But, apparently, Rick Wamsley got McLean to buy into picking him anyway.

So it's Wamsley's fault?
