not trying to attack you but chances are that the cap will likely go up rather then down, making room for players. i don't think murray will try to go concervative just to keep room for that possibility. also with kovalev leaving next year that's 5 mill in cap space, he'll probably be replaced with a younger player. i would agree that it would be tight fit to get savard in here but i made it work with the cap calculator.Dash wrote:You just don't seem to get what we are saying. Your trades are fantasy. You make it sound so easy and simple to move players without replacing them, nor considering return. If Murray wanted to trade Lee, he would. He either doesn't want to, or has tried to no avail or hasn't gotten an offer that makes sense for the team.
You also haven't taken into consideration future cap space (as I said with Phillips and Karlsson, and plenty other FA's that will be due raises while we are stuck with Savard's contract).
And there's been no consideration for our goalie situation. And you also just assumed that Kovalev will walk and his $5M cap hit helps us... while at the same time you lose a top 6 winger. Where do you get a replacement?
Also, the cap could go down any year, by any amount. And there may not be a season past this one for a while if there's a lockout.
Murray's the GM and in charge because he has considered all these options and scenarios.
as far as re-signing leclaire, the goalie market right now is dictating that he'll get a drop in salary, even with a good year. if he want's that much of a raise then i'm sure we'll find other options to go with elliott.
IMO phillips wil re-sign with longer term and shorter cap hit. also i doubt we re-sign ruutu(making room for younger player) or shannon, and kuba or campoli might be traded also.
so there are many ways to make savard fit. i'd be more worried about his health then the (very friendly) cap hit.
the way i'd imagine a trade going down would of been a combination or pick/ prospect and low paid roster player(they'd probably want some D since they're hurting in that departement(so campoli or lee might be options), then we'd either make more room by trading kuba.(if we can't find takers, and i doubt it, we can waive him, i know it's not murray's style)
