Most of my opinions are from a fans perspective. I have only been playing for 3 seasons (2 years) now so my knowledge on the on-ice game is not as good as others.

It should still be interesting to see what happens next year when both Runbland and Wiecioch are presumably ready for the big time. But having 2 rookies coming in is better than having one guy come in for sure.

How did we get to the assumption that Cowen will be on the team and not Wiercioch?

I distinctly remember hearing Tim Murray on in the afternoon before the draft, talking about how they fully expect Wiercioch to push for a spot, but that Cowen is likely a year away. He mentioned that of all the defense men prospects that Wiercioch was the most ready for the NHL

Just curious whether the Teams stance has changed, or if it's just opinion on this board.

Everything that's been said Weircoich is no where near Cowen's level right now and Cowen has the advantage of playing in The CHL vs The NCAA, it's a huge jump from College.

But Butler can do it no problem and lead the Sens first line to the promise land. Haha.

Gotta love talking out 2 sides of your mouth, but I digress. No need to carry this convo on.

I think it would be a big difference for a defenseman over a forward, no?

there ya go. three ppl who can vouch for him so disagree with him all you want, but lets not pretend he doesn't know what he's talking about, especially with the 'notch' comments (looking at you N4L)

sorry if I've opened up a can of worms here, but I'm really looking for a response from Neely. Many of times he's calling ppl out because they can't defend facts as well as he can, or so he thinks, and proclaiming someone to be pulling 'facts outta the a$$' and not knowing a damn thing about the game because he's got friends in the league...well I really want a response from him for accusing someone who's been in the business I think much more than he has.

And don't get me wrong, I like Neely. Great poster, and he does have great knowledge and insight on the game. But if you're going to call out someone and question their knowledge, don't just disappear when certain other facts are being presented. Same goes for Wang Roche, I'd like to hear his thoughts on this too. Doing it respectfully will be appreciated (i.e. no name-calling or insults).

Maybe I'm wrong but I doubt you'll hear much from either of them. One thing they may have in common is the knowledge that they don't owe anyone an explanation. They may just read it, take note, and move on.

Stop putting the space between Co(k and Roche. It's CockRoche, unless you really prefer seeing Wang Roche.

There was another poster on here who claimed to have played a few games for Detroit and the Rangers. Except he got exposed as a fraud when the NHLPA said they had no record of such a player.

In CockRoche's cases, sure, there is a record of a Mr. Roche being drafted by St. Louis in '95, and his home town is the same as CockRoche. I have no reason to doubt the guy being legit but, of course, I had no reason to doubt the other guy either. So, while I am 99% certain CockRoche is who he says he is, please don't expect Neely to come out and say "I was wrong".

Personally I don't want them to comment on this information. All it will do is continue this ridiculous argument.

My point is, was and always will be that just because you played in the NHL, or know people who do, or hell even if you are Gretzky, you're opinion means as much as the next guy.

The only thing you can comment on is what things may have been like when you played, not what they were like before, nor what they are like now if you're done.

I hazard a guess that a decent percentage of people on this board have played hockey or another team sport at a fairly intense level. Unless you are the a member of the management staff of a team in the NHL right now your opinions hold no more water than Notch, N4L CockRoche, wprager, or myself.

Hate to burst your bubble, but N4L isn't the only person who knows people in the NHL. In this country there are less than 3 degrees of seperation between any of us and a guy playing.

Does anyone care that someone else on this board has played a team sport at an extreemly high level for an extended period of time? No, I bet not one of you. Why? Because it's never been mentioned before and likely won't be again. He's wanted to keep it to himself because he's said it to me many a time, that it's really nothing more than a part of his past, and it's no more relevant to these conversations that a guy who's a fantasy geek.

Unless you're going to break rumors or news using your contacts, opinions on who is going to play where, who will make the team, who is a better player to sign to a contract, are just that opinions and regardless of whether you're Gretzky or Joe Schmoe they hold the same weight.

In my eyes anyway. All that this mud slinging and name calling does is reduce the weight of your words in my mind. People just end up sounding like 2 school boys bragging about whose brother or father is bigger or tougher.

Exactly.

If there's one thing I hate (and don't understand or care to) is the back and forth, schoolyard BS. I can't believe people have the time to go back and forth like that - and it's certainly annoying to the people who actually want/look for opinions on here.

I have 20,000+ posts and I doubt any of them are schoolyard BS like this.

Dude, you HAVE to stop correcting people's typing / grammar / spelling. I know that this is a name, but, really, no one cares. Watch what I can do with your writing:

1 & 2) Sentence fragment; this word group begins with a subordinate, which means it can't be a complete sentence as it is presented here. Also, there's a pronoun agreement error here--"the NHLPA" is a singular noun, and you use the plural pronoun "they" to match up with it. The proper pronoun here is "it."

3) Singular/plural confusion; there's only one case here.

4) Possessive missing ('s); you didn't mean to say that "the home town is not the same as CockRoche" -- a logical absurdity -- but rather that the town in question is the same as Cochroche's hometown.

5 & 6) Slang; the word is legitimate, not legit. Plus, a comma is needed here after "legit" to separate the two independent clauses in this sentence.

See how much fun it is when people play editor with your writing? I can do this all day, my friend, and I promise you I will win.

Anyway, it's a hockey forum, not Maclean's or whatever. Just accept it for what it is. Nobody is paying attention to this stuff here. Let it go.

Dude, I wasn't trying to correct anything, but if you put the space between it the cuss word substitution on this site changes Co(k to Wang, and it becomes more difficult to understand the discussion.

We get it. You have a Piled High and Deep in English Lit. Good for you. As for me, I left the Soviet Union about a month after starting grade 5, then the next year I went to grade 6 at a The Overseas School of Rome (a US school in Rome). Needless to say, I had a few problems -- but who wouldn't, when they learn English by reading -- and writing about -- Oliver Twist.

I think, given my beginnings, that I have done pretty well. True, I use a little slang and "conversational English" when I post here, and sometimes I make typos, but who doesn't (and don't say "I don't"). Suffice it to say that I don't write like that professionally; check out my thesis, if you want -- it's microfiched somewhere at the Library and Archives Canada (I doubt they have it in electronic form, though). The subject area will not make it very easy to understand, though.
