I think you mean it would have to be Spezza ++ for Iginla.

Iginla's age plus Spezza's term of contract are the two big hinderances to any deal, not saying by any means that Iggy is done already, but Spezza is quite a few years younger.

I took into account their ages.

I also took into account what they do on the ice, off the ice, for the team, for the community and everything else that it takes to be a superstar in the NHL.

Spezza ++ for Iginla still in my opinion.

Never gonna happen anyway.

No thanks on Iggy. I'd rather take Giordano and Backlund to start the conversation. That's massive cap savings and two nice young players. Backlund's time has come as far as being an NHLer full time, and Giordano blew up last year, when he was the team's best d-man (until Ian White got there anyway).

I love Giordano as well. Someone who can play every facet of the game and not hurt you out there. He has a great story and has paid his dues. It all came together last year for him with increased playing time and a bigger role. He responded in a big way for the Flames.

Sutter needs to be careful though. People here in Calgary are starting to open their eyes. It's no secret here how well Gio played last year and some people would be pissed if they gave him up. Still, I'd love to have him and he's got some real nice offensive upside.

Agreed. An Iginla trade signals a total rebuild.

We have to have elite, primary scoring talent. The idea that we'll survive on depth is IMO bogus; it sounds like how the Edmonton Oilers were going to be the deepest offence in the league in 2006-2007 after their Finals run.

Savard has elite talent, but to me he seems one or two good (bad) hits away from becoming a shell of what he was. And, frankly, the whole scenario of a "soft" trade seems a little fishy to me. It's a little unfair of me to say given how I've defended Spezza against this speculation, but there are one or two posters on HF who think this guy is bad news in the locker-room. To paraphrase one of them, "I don't want to trade for a guy who has his number in his rims."

I'd rather keep Spezza, but that should be pretty obvious by now. Sens on July 1st, Free Agents, Trades - Interesting storylines to watch. - Page 22 432129

Savard's health scares me. I want him on the Sens about as much as I want genital warts.

Good god no. We have enough stud defensive prospects. We NEED a forward prospect who projects out to more than a solid 2nd or 3rd liner...

We had one, his name was Vlad Tarasenko, and we had one last year, his name was MPS.

Very true. Time frames are key though. Cowen gave us some nice depth, Rundblad made us scary. I don't think you will see Murray worry to much more about prospect D-men.

In all seriousness, I hear Tim Erixon is going to be sick. Best Flame defenceman in a few years.

I remember him talking once he got to Ottawa, saying how he relished being on a contender and struggled through rebuilds in Atlanta then the Island before coming to Ottawa.

Piss off then Sutton.

With the ever-increasing silence, does anyone think there is at least more of a chance Volchenkov stays in the fold? It stuns me that the rights weren't dealt, especially with Hamhuis' rights being dealt twice.

I think the silence could be an indicator of the opposite too. Perhaps Murray knows he cannot touch what others may offer and isn't bothering. For Volchie, considering the type of game he types, this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to cash in huge. I certainly wouldn't pass it up. At least see whats out there and if you aren't comfortable, keep Ottawa as an option.

Fuckbeans! That would pretty well guarantee that we won't be dealing Spezza.

CGY has nothing of interest anyways.
