Well the FA market for Centers is the lowest I have ever seen. Any teams wanting a center couldn't find a better center in FA so demand may be there and supply is on the side of the Senators.

GO SENS GO!!!
Busy finalizing the deal that will see us ice a Spezza-less Senators?
Believe it or not, I have just enough optimism to believe that. Not that I want Spezza gone, but I think the return could land us a 1st line C and another Top 6 through subsequent trades/signings.

Speculation is rampant right now that CGY is moving fast to clear cap space and is calling a presser for later this morning, and for what it's worth, CGY is the one team that has constantly been brought up in discussions about trading Spezza.
Does 2 + 2 = 4 here? Maybe. Maybe not. I don't really know what CGY has that could be of interest to us, tho'.

I think you mean it would have to be Spezza ++ for Iginla.

No thanks on Iggy. I'd rather take Giordano and Backlund to start the conversation. That's massive cap savings and two nice young players. Backlund's time has come as far as being an NHLer full time, and Giordano blew up last year, when he was the team's best d-man (until Ian White got there anyway).

They shouldn't have to clear a ton though. I would assume there are roster players coming back in a Spezza deal and with this being the off-season, they could go over the cap by a certain percentage (I think it's 5%), and still acquire. The fact that they are frantically trying to clear space says to me that they are not only planning a big move cost wise, but that this move is time sensitive.
The alternative is that they go into the season with Matt fuckin' Stajan as their #1 centre. There isn't a whole lot out there worth overpaying for at centre.

I strongly dislike what Calgary has to offer. Maybe Spezza and Bouwmeester have equal value in the short-term (not really IMO) but Spezza has much more importance to us long-term with EK, JC, PW, DR.
I dunno. Apart from Backlund, it's all defence that intrigues me: JBo, Giordano, Erixon, etc.
Be careful what you wish for.

Good god no. We have enough stud defensive prospects. We NEED a forward prospect who projects out to more than a solid 2nd or 3rd liner...

Iginla's age plus Spezza's term of contract are the two big hinderances to any deal, not saying by any means that Iggy is done already, but Spezza is quite a few years younger.

I love Giordano as well. Someone who can play every facet of the game and not hurt you out there. He has a great story and has paid his dues. It all came together last year for him with increased playing time and a bigger role. He responded in a big way for the Flames.

I took into account their ages.
I also took into account what they do on the ice, off the ice, for the team, for the community and everything else that it takes to be a superstar in the NHL.
Spezza ++ for Iginla still in my opinion.
Never gonna happen anyway.
