I guess I'm the only one enthused by this. Rundblad is good..like top 2 pairing good, and the best part, is he's going to play one more year in Sweden against Men, in probably the 3rd best league in the world. Even better he'll be playing for a member of the Senators Scouting Staff who will ensure his progression follows what we need.

Nashville took Ellis last year even though they have tonnes of D-men. Los Angeles did the same this year. Can't just can't have enough quality d-men.

Plus this just proves what I was saying that from 20 - 60 or 70 the guys are all the same. Rundblad is as good or better than anyone who we could pick now.

Yeah, that and his WJC success as an 18 year old is something to talk about, for sure.

Karlsson/Cowen
Runblad/Weircoich

Good luck to the rest of The East in 3 or 4 years. If somehow that D breaksdown, good luck with Lehner.

That's great and all but where are our goals going to come from? Aging Alfredsson? Disgruntled Spezza? Lazy Kovalev? Under-achieving Foligno? Nashville Fisher?

We're putting a lot of pressure on guys like Regin, Butler, Wick and Hoffman; all who have accomplished next to nothing at the professional level.

Sorry, I'm really disappointed with what murray has done today, the off-season thus far, and the last couple seasons.

What would you seriously like Murray to do? Take a way lesser player just because it's a need?

I've lost complete confidence in Murray. It's official.

That's nonsense.

Maybe I'm just sick of missed opportunities. He blew it with Heatley, and he's going to blow it with Spezza. he blew it by not signing Cammalleri and taking Kovalev instead. Cammalleri tore up the playoff this year. He blew it with Campbell who now has a Stanley Cup. He won't do anything of significance this off-season; he won't sign a d-man now (he'd be dumb to anyway) and he's not going to get Spezza a winger.

Sorry dude but his patch-jobs just aren't working for me. Until he does something big to address the needs of this team I'm not happy.

I'm inclined to agree somewhat. I like what Murray has done in the drafts, but that is mostly on the scouts. Murray has done well to restock Bingo, but otherwise, I can't say that I am thrilled with a lot of things, most of which you mentioned.

He's too patient for my liking. With great risk comes great reward....

I get that eventually he will be replaced, but with the youth movement that is the NHL, you don't want to keep these prospects out of the league too long.

I think Murray is building from the bueline out.

I get that.....

I do think it'd be nice to get at least a forward within the first 2 rounds. I have no problems with this trade IF we had a 2nd rounder. We'll see, still some time.

I do think that if Sens sign Z. Michalek, Phillips may not be around after next season.

Please please explain to me how he blew it with those situations. Do you know something no one else does?

How do you know a better offer was out there for Heatley, and save the he should have held onto him talk because everyone knows that wasn't an option. Heatley could not start the year here, it would have been a disaster. You're also assuming that we has a shot at signing Cammalleri, in fact if I remember right we had to wait for Heatley to approve the trade and in that time Cammalleri had already signed (he signed July 1).

What could he have done different?

He's not a NMC clause doesn't he (Phillips)? In that case, it may be out of Murray's hands.

I don't even want Z. Michalek now and that's saying something. I don't want to get in a position where we've got a logjam at D trying to get all these D-men into the lineup. What I'd REALLY like is a 3rd first liner to go with Alfie and the Anchor (Spezza). Everyone else we have is a 2nd liner. Let's not mix words here.

In related news, I have zero faith that this Spezza thing ends well. We are stuck with him. Diddle.

This. I would have been really happy with Tarasenko but if they weren't confident in him, this is the right move.

Taking on Cheechoo was a terrible idea; his production has gone down every year for the last four years. I know he wanted Michalek but sorry he got fleeced.

Signing Kovalev was equally as dumb. He signed him a day after Cammalleri. Sorry, but he knew as much about Heatley on July 1st as he did July 2nd.

Since he's taken over it seems like UFAs don't want to come here and our stars want to leave

Why did we have to wait for Heatley before signing Cammalleri? Kovalev signed before Heatley was dealt, so it was obvious the money was there for Cammy.

Tarasenko isn't a way lesser player. All of this talk of taking the BPA, and he doesn't.

1) Heatley situation was impossible
2) What do you consider blowing it, when talking about the Spezza situation?
3) Cammalleri never wanted to sign here
4) Campbell was the #3 D-man on Chicago and would have been expected to be the #1 here.
5) This off-season is currently the future
6) Cowen, Wiercioch, and Rundblad are each, likely, a year away. No telling what Murray has planned, at this point
7) All he's talked about for 3 seasons is the need for a top-6 forward...I'm pretty sure he'll fo what he can for Spezza...Spezza has to do it for himself, though
8) The majority of the posters on this site (many of whom's opinion I respect immensely) are quite pleased with Murray's work. Why all the hate?
9) ...little perspective, maybe? ...little faith?

That's exactly it. Who would I rather have? Beau Bennett or Runblad? NO brainer.

Taking on Cheechoo wasn't Murrays idea. It was something that needed to be done in order to make the deal work salary wise. It wasn't optional.
