based on that, Murray never said Spezza asked for a trade, but as far as paving the road while Spezza never said I want a trade, but he definitely left the door open and suggested as much.

Therefore unless further evidence comes forward I have no other choice than to rule in favor of Mr. Murray.

Mr. Spezza you are to blame.

Court adjourned.

Speaking of the draft, have we gotten a pick for Volchenkov's rights yet?

I think everyone and their mother knows he's going to the Capitals. Not much interest in getting his rights when you know he won't sign with you.

I don't know.....the reporter approached him asking "did you ask for a trade". What provoked her to ask someone with a long term contract that question? She was obviously tipped off. Spezza's answers didn't help his case, but that question was asked before he said anything in public.

I just can't believe that we can't get any picks. THe more I've thought about it the more I'm astounded that Philly trade a 3rd or 4th (whatever it was) and Parent to Nashville for Hamhuis. Then because they aren't even close to a deal they trade him to Pittsburgh for a 3rd.

If I'm Pittsburgh why do I even offer a 3rd. I'd offer a 5th or 6th. It was widely known Hamhuis wasn't going to sign there, and I would have just laughed at them and said you keep him them until July 1 and then we'll talk to him.

If that situation gets a 3rd then Volchenkov is worth a 4th at least. I have to believe that things will change (mostly for Vancouver who media outlets out there are reporting they want him), when we get closer to July 1.

No man. Ottawa are highly skilled at getting NOTHING for their UFAs and also picking up scraps on July 2nd!!!

I'm just going with what you wrote...Murray didn't say anything about a trade, just that he was emotinal and didn't like the booing. SHe then asks if he asked for a trade. To be honest for a reporting that's a logical step. He's not happy, didn't like the treatment from the fans...hmmm.

Jason, did you ask for a trade?

I haven't heard anything from the Spezza camp saying that it was Murray that started it. So either they want it to go away (which if he asked for a trade why let it die? Heatley didn't and if worked for him) or they know Jason really did mess up in which case I stand by my, it's his fault it all happened.

Now with that said, really? Is it a big deal? He wasn't happy, didn't like being booed. Just lost and was shown up by Crosby, so he said emotionally if this is the way it is, then trade me.

Hell I did that 15 times while I played ball down south. THen again no one even knew who I was.

I know of 2 Players (one personally) that avoided Ottawa like the plage during his carreer. They just didn't want the pressure of playing in Ottawa, with fans passion and expectations higher than almost anywhere else in the NHL. It wasn't until they finally ended up here than they realized it's not worse than anywhere else, and in fact the one guy I know loved the fact that he could do groceries and people wouldn't bother him.

It's a stigma that's going to take time, but signing FA's is difficult if they just don't want to come. Same reason some of the biggest names never sign in Toronto, well that and the city suck swamp water...

Fair enough. Personally I think Spezza knew Murray sorta opened a can of worms by saying he wasn't happy with the way he was treated, and was upset at Murray for this. And then a reporter comes and asks a question, and I think he just didn't know how to react, on top of being pretty peeved at Murray. So he handled it like....an idiot. If he responded normally, then this issue would have been put to bed. Both are to blame.

I balanced it out. Anyways, its the sad truth in many ways. Our biggest UFA signing on July 1st has been.....Gerber? Pretty much I'd say. He was pretty sought after that off-season and he chose us cuz Mucks was stupid enough to give him $3M+ over 3 years. After July, we've signed Jason Smith, Ruutu, and Kovalev. That's as big as the names get from what I can remember.

July 1st is when teams overpay UFAs in bidding wars. Signing a big name makes great headlines and forum fodder but in a salary cap age you'll regret the signing years down the road. more often than not.
