Michallica wrote:okay, just heard it on team 1200. "I'm signed here, if they want me me here, I'm here". Ouch....'no comment' to whether you demanded a trade? Out you go!

Not sure what grounds he's wanting out on, but if its the fans, then that's stupid. This comes with the territory and media is stupid here, but being here for 8+ years should have made that clear to him before. Don't sign the contract if you don't want this treatment.

Exactly. IF he did ask for a trade (which I think he has, no proof) then he's just proving people right about his character. On the ice he looked like a quitter, off the ice it seems like it's the same deal.

Spezza signed that contract, he got 49 million dollars to be part of The Ottawa Senators and because HE played poorly in the playoffs and HE made the rookie mistakes, he wants out. He's no better then Heatley.

His answers to Waldo were proof enough for me. Any GM in the NHL who heard that knows it too.

Yup, I agree. I heard it was before all this came out so Im in no state of shock.

In my mind, this is a gutless move, it just shows he cant cut it in an actual hockey market. I always knew this guy was dumb but how can you possibly not say "No I never requested a trade, I want to be in Ottawa". You spit out stupid cliches all year long and you cant spit one out now? Really? Has the hampster stopped running upstairs?

The sooner he is gone the sooner Ottawa can compete for a true shot at a cup. Even without Spezza, The Sens are better then Toronto, Buffalo, and Montreal... hell, it might be nice to see guys that are hungry from game 1 to game 82 this year. Unlike a lot of other people I think Ottawa has a very nice team along with peices in place that will really show The Sens fans what Murray has done. If Spezza wasnt in the Pitts series, does it end any differently? Personally, I think they go 7 games or maybe win without him. Regualr season, I think they end with basically the same record.

Spezza was treated like an absolute God until all the ice off crap and he signed that huge contract. 3 years later his play has deminshed, he gets paid top dollar, and get held accountable and he cant take it? Later.

The Sens organization treated him just as well, this is a collective spit in the face to the city, fan, and organization. Yeah, they committed 7 years and 49 million to you because they wanted you to be the wipping boy. He's a quitter, always has been, always will be, this is just more of the proof that people who doubt him are right.

Might not have to. We'll see how Ottawa's season goes next year. If Ottawa wins the division (which I think they can) then why go out and sign a guy? Maybe if the hole is still there, but it might not be. Who is to say Ottawa doesnt pick up a guy like Weiss or Brassard and they run with the ball that Spezza fumbled? Hell, what's to say Regin doesnt go nuts.

Some people just need a legit opportunity and a guy like Brassard who is from Ottawa, plays a gritty game, and works his Donkey off might just be the guy The Sens need.

A deal for Brad Richards would be freakin' awesome! Is Richards a UFA?

Maaan I hope Murray strikes gold with this. As discussed yesterday, his trades have been really......meh....

I think Boston will be vastly improved and could definitely win the division next season. Status quo definitely won't work if Ottawa is looking to take the division in 2010/11

I love the Michalek and Meszaros trade, both trades made The Sens better, that's all you can ask. Campoli trade I kind of get a little more, Ill defend that one too.

We'll see what he gets for Spezza but IMO with GM's knowing he is on the market, you might see a little bid of a bidding war going on. His salary is tough to take though. Look what GOmez got last year and I would defently put Spezza ahead of Gomez.

No, but it already wont be. An injection of youth isnt always a bad thing and the way The NHL is going Ottawa was due for one. Dealing Spezza will just add on top of that. Spezza isnt right for the current senators and hasnt been for a long time.

I actually really believe in this current form of The Ottawa Senators minus Spezza. The blueline is improved, the goaltending is solid, and hopefully, with the right move(s) the forward ranks will be younger, harder working, and more tallented then it has in years. Defense and goaltending wins championships in hockey, a good offense is just an offshoot of those two things.

I really don't think Dallas will give Richards up anytime soon, they love him there.

Send him to Pheonix for some of their prospects. Who knows.

The problem with Regin is that he only came into his own playing on Spezza's wing. There's a huge chance he will rot on Fisher's wing for awhile if a deal gets done.

I like a deal with Florida, but I'm not so sure they give us that 3rd overall pick in a deal.

I keep looking at the top 10 and I keep thinking that Atlanta is the team. Ottawa Senators off-season talk - Page 63 105237

That's why this is even being brought up right now.

Fwiw, I agree that Spezza needs more insulation.

Yeah, but the ones who get what's going on in the NHL realize that a two-pronged attack, coupled with good, solid D is what wins. Depth, two top lines, a slick third line and a tough 4th line. No one would question Spezza if Mike Richards was above him in the pecking order - the same way no one really bothers Briere when he's not playing well and Briere pays them back by insulating Richards and scoring massive goals on an equally effective line 2.

Imagine...Richards as the Sens top line center, and Spezza as a 2nd liner. That attack is full out scary - and here's good news: Spezza doesn't have to be 'the guy/the leader'.

That's about all you can do. Richard's isnt walking in that door anytime soon. You can hope and pray all you want but Spezza's contract makes it almost impossible to add impact guys to help him out.

Not entirely Spezza's contract. The thing with Philly is that they got two centers with PPG capabilities at a steal. Fisher's contract is a huge reason Ottawa's got issues. I like Fisher, but not the contract.

Dudley being the new guy there and probably looking to make a big move, that could very well be the place for him.

Regin is a natural center and he may very well get the chance to play with Alfi and Michalek next year, we'll see what happens there but he could explode into a 50-60 point guy, which with his great two way play, would be a legit number 1 center.

Philly also has Timonen, Carle, and Pronger moving the puck up. Look what happend a couple years back without that type of defense. Look what Spezza did 4 or 5 years ago putting up the points he did. All stems from a defense that can move the puck.

Well if spezza was smart, he'd have kept his mouth shut until after July 1st, when he can whisper a trade request and choose his destination. It definitely sounds like he's unhappy in Ottawa and wouldn't mind getting out, but its hard to interpret a dumbass. If he really wanted out, why would he say something stupid like that to all but guarantee a trade before July 1?

I would say the 8th overall is 100% coming back to start. You would have to think Little would be included and along with a prospect like Klienenberg. That would be the basis IMO.
