Detroit was not playing like Detroit last night. Didn't I say, late in the season, that it just wasn't the same Detroit Red Wings that we've become accustomed to seeing over the last decade? Then, again, San Jose isn't exactly clutch. Coming back from 0-3 and making it respectable bodes well for a split on the road.

They played a game 7 like two days ago. Give them a Diddling break.

He's right, they aren't the same team. They don't have as much offensive depth and their goalie is a question mark.

Detroit was the better team last night and The Sharks held on. What happend with The Wings in about 2 mins of that game doesnt happen often, if ever. Wings in 6 starting with a win tomorrow night.

I'd disagree with that, Detroit had less shots and more PP time and they blew it. 0 for 5 on the PP. Nabokov came up big at the end. Zetterberg was nowhere to be found last night. I think the Sharks were the better team and definately desrved the win last night. The "Mighty Red Wings" shouldn't give up 3 goals in 1:19, should they?

San Jose outplayed them and they were missing Marleau because of the flu

The Sharks def didnt outplay The Wings. Sorry man. You can rip the PP for game 1 but no shot they go 0-10 going back home. Even strength besides 2 mins (a breakdown that wont happen again) The Wings were better.

Being outshot doesnt mean that they outplayed the other team, very poor assestment if that's your criteria.

If Detroit gets 1 PP goal last night, they win that game.

But they didn't. The Sharks vastly outplayed them in the first, and that's all that mattered for the W.

No matter who wins the next game, I think it has 7 written all over it.

Well SJ has to sweep at home because I dont think there is any shot they win one game in Detroit. They feed off their crowd and they play a very defensive road game that Detroit will exploit. If SJ didnt get that win last night it would have been a disaster.

And what was their excuse in giving Phoenix 4 home dates?

I only saw the 3rd, but I saw Detroit doing a lot of hanging on. A lot.

While I agree SJS needed this win to not risk getting swept, I cannot agree that Detroit was the better team. That said, Detroit can (and will) play much better. Last night they played badly but still managed to come back from being down 0-3 and almost tied it up a few times. The Wings can't be all that happy -- and if they are, it will be their undoing.

That missed call on Setoguchi for the high stick was deplorable. Terrible terrible reffing last night. I lost all respect I had for Setoguchi in that game. What a punk he is. He high sticks Franzen and cuts him and they call Franzen for tripping?!! Unbelievable! Then he dives on the very next shift and they call Detroit for another penalty. They didn't even make an even up call to make up for it later. Setoguchi is a little Wing Dang Doodle, I can't stand him.

Tell me you're joking? Detroit-Phoenix is the toughest first round matchup in the league since the first round changed to a 7-game format. The only other first round series that comes to mind in toughness is Vancouver-Dallas a few years ago. Phoenix was supremely unlucky to draw Detroit in the first round.

Well then you missed the first two where they looked like the Harlem Globetrotters for much of the time. They had a bad couple-minute stretch that burned them and ran into some penalty trouble, but otherwise they generally controlled the play. It's amazing what you can do when almost everyone on the team has the puck skill to consistently make plays in the offensive zone.

One play San Jose had trouble adjusting to was when the two Red Wing pointment stretch out the forwards covering them and then one passes diagonally into the centre of the ice where a Wing would stand pretty much unguarded and have either a shot at the net (with a Holmstrom, Cleary, Franzen etc. standing in front) or a great passing option.

Granted, they aren't as good as in years past, but watching Detroit play is like watching Barcelona play soccer. Just an incredible amount of possession time. But. McLellan is a good coach, and he's used to the Wing system. He'll make adjustments, though it's hard to imagine to what extent he'll be able to counter the Wings when you watch Heatley lugging himself over the ice.

See, I told you that the Caps GM and Owner are tools:

"We have good coaches and they are going to be here for a long time,"
Capitals' general manager George McPhee told reporters Friday as the
Capitals cleaned out their lockers. "That equation is not part of the
issue."

Well, coaches are not an equation, and since when is an equation part of an issue? It's usually part of a solution.

Anyway, sounds the coaching staff is as good as gone.

Cooke took out Markov. Markov didn't come back (since about the 12 minute mark of the 1st). Gomez gets the extra 2 for roughing and Pittsburgh scores.

I hate this guy as much as I used to hate Tucker.

Another too-many-men and Pittsburgh is up 3-1. All their scoring on the power-play. If Markov is out, they're done. They can't kill the penalties and without Markov they'll have a tougher time scoring on power-plays.
