Besides, the pundits theories were Dung. I never bought any of the crap about fighting for the last playoff spot.

Personally, Clouston is only slightly exceeding expectations. Sacco looks like a miracle worker, though.

That's the price of carrying a 23-man roster.

Actually, I think that's just the call ups catching up to us. We has Z. Smith up for about a week, and we've had Brodeur up for about 2 weeks. At about $3300 a day each (rough figure: 180 days in the season, each guy with about a $600,000 deal), that's the missing $65,000 or so right there.

A couple more injuries and we'll start burning through it again. We definitely don't have enough for any trade-deadline acquisitions. Certainly not anyone worth replacing anyone currently in the lineup. Unless, of course, we move some significant salary.

I was thinking the same tonight. We probably won't do anything on the trade market - and maybe that's okay this time. I like this squad, it appears tight and plays as a team. I'm not aching for anything this deadline.

Nor am I, old friend... nor am I.

Aside from a scoring/playmaking LW.

How do you bring in that scoring/playmaking LW though? I'm with you, I think the D can hold its own (yikes), and the goaltending is what it is. I would absolutely love to bring in a winger. Love it, but how?

And also, is Kovalev the answer? He basically didn't play the first half and now he's 100% what I hoped he would be. Can he keep it up? And if so, is that the 'trade'?

Also, is the fact that we're in a winning streak right now blinding us to potential holes that could use filling?

These are the questions....*

What I bolded from your reply is what I firmly believe. For the same reason, I think that players that are looking reeeeeaaaal good now need to be considered trade bait because those same guys often look not-so-good.

I would do 2 things. Trade Spezza and a D for Phaneuf and a C. Then I would offer one or some of or all (depending on the return) of Foligno, Kelly, Del Shannon, Lee, O'Brien and a mid-round pick for The Wizard or Brunette or someone like that (Dumont?)

Result? Probably a Cup. Ottawa Senators Cap Space 2010/2011 - Page 6 159628

The only assets I would be willing to trade, and I use that term lightly are Jim O'brien, Bryan Lee, Picard, Ryan Shannon (or rather Low-fat-diet Ray Whitney Light with no Caffeine), and nothing greater than a 3rd rounder.

And with that I would go for a Ray Whiney or possibly a Keith Tkachuk. David Backes would be ideal, but I highly doubt he'd be available.

But I think what assures us that we won't get hosed in a deal is that we don't have to make one. So if something presents itself, then great. If not, then that's ok too.

Well, the good news is, the list of targets you guys put together would be the guys Murray'll be passively interested in (Whitney, Tkachuk (hate this guy). As for Backes and Brunette, no chance.

I think there is a chance for Brunette and even Dumont if the the Preds fall out of playoff contention.

It doesn't sound like Murray will be making any trades, unless someone makes him an offer he can't refuse.

I'm hearing that we're trading Leclaire, Shannon and Lee to the Stars for Ribeiro and Grossman and that we're flipping Ribeiro and Picard to Calgary for Phaneuf and a pick.

? Sorry, but that makes little sense.

Volchenkov is 100% gone if this were to ever happen, cause we'd have Phillips, Volchenkov, Kuba, Karlsson, Carkner, Campoli, Grossman, Phaneuf.

And why wouldn't Calgary just do a straight-up deal for a centre instead of involving a 3rd team? This is how your trade breaks down.

Calgary:
Ribeiro
Picard

Ottawa:
Phaneuf
Grossman
Undisclosed Draft Pick

Dallas:
Leclaire
Lee
Shannon

You'd have to ask Duane or Dale or Rich or Dave Sutter or whatever the Diddle his name is that question.

These made up deals rarely happen anyway. At least that's what I've been told by sources.
