I agree, but you can't keep all the players that are good and worth their salary. Besides, you can't really trade players that are no good and aren't worth their salary.

If you need to save money, you have to consider moving Kelly because there are cheaper options coming up pretty quickly.

Yeah...can't we just trade Kuba and Cheechoo? Ottawa Senators Cap Space 2010/2011 - Page 5 805406 What do you mean no?

I really can't imagine a scenario where we don't buy out Cheechoo.

I dont think Michalek will be making the cash that A Train will either, I also think he is just as good a player, plus a RH shot so he may very well be a better fit with a little less physicality.

I just hope that Murray doesn't overpay Volchenkov. Anything over 3.5 is a waste of cap space.

Why get rid of Shannon? Apart from early on in the season when he had come back too soon from his concussion, he's been brilliant in his entire tenure here.

Agreed. I'm a Shannon booster, tho'. Smile With that guy, tho', it has to be a short and cheap deal. The health thing is unfortunately a legitimate concern.

I say drop Shannon, he'll get injured again and we'll probably get another half a season out of him if that. He's not putting up any awesome numbers either.

Not to mention I'd like a 'bigger' power forward Ottawa Senators Cap Space 2010/2011 - Page 5 54934

Im not the biggest Shannon fan but he is a cheap 3rd liner who doesnt hurt the team and can play with most guys on that team. A player like Shannon is valuable in a cap world. No reason to see him dealt or not signed.

Cheechoo I can see being bought out, but IMO, him being bought out will depend on what happens in the playoffs. If he gets an OT winner and pots a few, no way he gets dealt. Cheechoo is always one of the best players on his team during the playoffs, even last year. Hard work wins games and he puts just as much in as anyone.

There will be a place for Zack Smith next year pending him earning his spot next year and not reading his press clippings.

Shannon is not a must on this team, so if we have no choice I have no problem seeing him walk away. Better than trading Kelly, Ruutu, Winchester etc who are more useful.

Maybe, but Winchester is proving to be pretty injury prone. Shannon is a good guy to just step in and play. There are always injuries and he is a pretty good 13th forward.

Sure, Just said if we have no choice. Nobody's getting rid of anybody if cap hit is not an issue. We have already 2 extra bodies not counting Zack Smith, so I could see it happen.

Donovan is probably as good as gone. He is injured, he's a healthy scratch, and he's getting on. I think he is a great guy to have there right now but I dont think he will be back.

We'll see I guess, a lot can happen between now and the begining of next year. Im enjoying these hard working sens so Im gonna leave it at that, dont care what happens after this season is over to be honest, at least not right now.

Has nothing to do with Leclaire getting a 2nd chance, I think he's a fantastic goaltender but I also think the same about Elliott. If Elliott is good enough to be number 1 and has ended up taking the job, then Leclaire is in the same postion he was in when he was with Columbus. A 3.8 mil backup.

He should get a 2nd chance but if they go with Elliott it wont be in Ottawa. Brodure might get a shot at being that backup as well.

I can't say with 100% certainty but this could be the sunniest Neely post of all times.

Always said I will cheer for a hard working team, now it is just paying off for them on the ice. I didnt think they had the tallent to get things done right now, thought it would take longer for some guys to come around but Clouston has done a fantastic job and that shouldnt go over looked.

If OTT closes out the year playing this kind of hockey and securing 4th or so in the east, Clouston has to get serious consideration for the Jack Adams. I don't know if *any* hockey pundits had the Sens picked for the playoffs...

Sacco, Ruff, and Murray (in LA) are all deserving candidates, too, tho'. How COL is still in the playoff picture boggles my mind.

I think what Sacco has done is more impressive then what Clouston has at this point, but either one.

Ottawa's cap room is shrinking. A week or two ago it was around $915K (that's *after* applying a bonus cushion of $490K) and now it is down to $850K.

That's the price of carrying a 23-man roster.

Besides, the pundits theories were Dung. I never bought any of the crap about fighting for the last playoff spot.

Personally, Clouston is only slightly exceeding expectations. Sacco looks like a miracle worker, though.

Actually, I think that's just the call ups catching up to us. We has Z. Smith up for about a week, and we've had Brodeur up for about 2 weeks. At about $3300 a day each (rough figure: 180 days in the season, each guy with about a $600,000 deal), that's the missing $65,000 or so right there.

A couple more injuries and we'll start burning through it again. We definitely don't have enough for any trade-deadline acquisitions. Certainly not anyone worth replacing anyone currently in the lineup. Unless, of course, we move some significant salary.
