I don't see a pressing need for OTT to make a deal that big. That's 3 roster players, or 1/6th of your playing team. That move changes the complexion of the team, which is probably the last thing you want at this point.

OTT might need a tweak -- i.e., adding one player without subtracting anyone, or subtracting one player at most -- but an overhaul right now would be a mistake. Don't fix what ain't broken, SSF. I don't get why you're anxious to change this team right now. Trade deadline deals rarely work out. For every Bill Guerin to PIT (2008) deal, there's 10 Keith Tkachuk to ATL (2007) deals.

I just think you have a better chance of winning a deal when the need isn't that pressing.

You're right in everything you say, but even with all the names involved, this deal amounts to a tweak as far as I can see. Essentially a Kuba for Souray swap.

If the numbers posted around the internet are right about RFA compensation, then up to 994K there is no compensation. I don't really see either getting through on less than that. There has to be at least one GM who's an a-hole and is going to drive up salaries.

Further from 994k to 1.5 million is a 3rd round pick. If I'm the GM of a team looking for young talent I would gladly throw 1.2 or 1.3 million a year at Regin and chance losing the 3rd round pick. Same with Foligno. That's cheap for a forward these days, and they are plug and play.
