This was a one time thing, I wrote this on HF because that's where most of the baseball nerds hardcore fans were.

Okay, I guess this is the time then:

Doc, I had the pleasure of going to Toronto on my birthday and watching you from right behind camera row. You are - and probably always will be - the greatest pitcher in Jays history. A truly monumental athlete, man and ambassador to the game, especially in a small(ish) market like Toronto.

We lost that game on June 20th, but it was something that I'll never forget. The intensity of one of the greatest players at the peak of his game was something to behold.

I went for the Phillies in the WS last year of course, and this year I'll have a solid reason to do so again. Good luck to you, we all wish you the best. Win another Cy Young and show those Phillies fans what an absolute marvel you are.

And don't forget us Doc, we certainly will never forget you!

The rumours of a failed physical were false... it was waiting on approval from Bud Selig for the $6M the Jays were sending to the Phillies.

I don't blame him one bit though....this team went no where in the last 8 years he committed to the jays and now another re-build....defi one of the best jays of all time. Will be missed. For his sake, I hope he wins a championship
Halladay hasn't seen the post season once in his entire career as a Blue Jay. He's arguably the best pitcher in the majors. I'd wanna get outta there too if this club was not serious about making the post season.

Definitely. I'd want out as well - no hard feelings, but I want to win and baseball is not like hockey, there's not 8 teams from each Conference (League) that get in.

I guess the dream now is that the kids develop together and Roy comes back after his stint in Philly when they're ready for the big show.

Odds of that are pretty slim, though.

How does Overbay feel right now when he hears that Wallace is coming in as his replacement.

So, we need:

Another pitching prospect or 3 because apparently McGowen isn't ready for another year and a half ( confused ), a 3B prospect - or buy one and ship EE...anywhere else. A SS STUD please, we suck there as well - although the D from that position is the best in the majors potentially.

And...one more outfielder. Although, what is David Cooper's position? 1B? That might have to change to 3B.

I heard Michael Taylor's a pretty good outfield prospect. Maybe we could send someone like Wallace Oakland's way for him. Report: Halladay traded to Phillies - Page 7 159628

I don't know how much you're going to get in return for Overpaid. Just getting the salary off the books is something.

Agreed on the SS. I don't know what can happen in that regard, though. MLB prospects take so long to develop that it's not really useful to draft for need.

Haha, yeah. Wallace is our new 1st baseman after this year, so that's a massive need taken care of.

Overbay is almost untradeable, we'd have to take comparable salary (and a crappy player back), no thanks.

We have like...4 picks in the two rounds. We might be able to draft a stud SS.

The Jays are set at SS for the year with Alex Gonzales and JMac. Bautista will either play OF or 3B, he sucks at both but unless you are the Yankees, you can't fill every position in one offseason. Overbay was traded earlier this offseason, only to have the deal cancelled due to the Arizona cather's failing his physical. Lyle might be sticking around until Wallace proves he is ready. The Jays

When you say 'set for the year at SS', you mean, we'll bat .230 at the position and play sound defense, right?

I would say maybe .255 ish, with really solid defence. That's pretty good out of the 9th spot in the batting order.

I'll take .255 to be honest. I thought they'd be around .235-.240 max, so that would be nice actually.

Gonzales is a career .240 hitter but he hid .284 in Boston over the last 50 games last year. His problem is he strikes out ALOT and hardly ever walks. Still tremendous defence at the position will be key with the young pitching staff, extra outs will kill you in the AL East.

Yeah, I take that back, I noticed he hit very well in the AL, which is a good sign - and of course, his defence is stellar.

Roy took out a full-page ad in the Toronto Sun to thank the fans and the city of Toronto.

This guy is the definition of class.

Wow, that's just cool. Good for him, he's a landmark when it comes to B-ball - and he was very special to Canadian ball and Toronto.

Also, I hear the Jays have acquired Brandon Morrow, who's a potential future number 2 or 3 starter. Brandon League is apparently going for him.

A.A. is starting to really mold this team with young talent.
