Report: Halladay traded to Phillies

We got one of the top prospect pitchers in the game in Drabek. Top 3 probably when the dust settles. Holy cow...what a major trade this was. Wallace is ranked as high as 19 in some scouting reports and no lower than 40 in the list of the best prospects in the world.

They'll likely move him to 1B at some point soon and let him 'swing away'.

And most seem quite excited about D'arnaud as well - if nothing else, he could form a nice tandem with Arencibia as soon as this year.

Interesting. Good trade for AA to be honest, getting the ace in Drabek back is huge, getting Wallace as well is massive. I was excited about Taylor's size, but size pertains more to hockey than baseball - usually anyway. Wallace has major pop in his bat and sounds like a 30HR, 90+ RBI guy. Perfect for the middle of the lineup around Lind, Hill and Wells.

Snider will be in that mix too, eventually anyway. I'm just not crazy about the defence. Wells better get back to gold glove form.

So Oakland has made it's way into the mix as it's expected the Jays will spin one of the Phillies' prospects, Michael Taylor, to Oakland for Wallace.

It's too bad the Jays can't jump into a different division because even if they can manage to put together a decent season their odds of making it diminish significantly due to being in a division with both the Yankees and the Red Sox.

Yeah, but I'm not sure if I'm unhappy or not yet. This puts a TON of pressure on the Phillies to make this deal work. We could end up getting Drabek AND another top level talent like Dom. Brown. The Phillies have agreed to a 20 million a year extension with Halliday, so it's not like they'll just abandon this deal completely I don't think.

They might have just diddled themselves into the worst corner imaginable.

Has the potential to kill the entire deal. I would assume the Jays might be okay if we were given Taylor AND Wallace AND Drabek - even if he defective right now, these three guys would be okay.

Hopefully it's not Drabek, I know he's had some injury issues in the past -- tommy john surgery

I don't care how good or bad this deal could potentially be (okay i care a little), but I hate to see Halladay leave Toronto. I don't blame him one bit though....this team went no where in the last 8 years he committed to the jays and now another re-build....defi one of the best jays of all time. Will be missed. For his sake, I hope he wins a championship

Okay, I guess this is the time then:

Doc, I had the pleasure of going to Toronto on my birthday and watching you from right behind camera row. You are - and probably always will be - the greatest pitcher in Jays history. A truly monumental athlete, man and ambassador to the game, especially in a small(ish) market like Toronto.

We lost that game on June 20th, but it was something that I'll never forget. The intensity of one of the greatest players at the peak of his game was something to behold.

I went for the Phillies in the WS last year of course, and this year I'll have a solid reason to do so again. Good luck to you, we all wish you the best. Win another Cy Young and show those Phillies fans what an absolute marvel you are.

And don't forget us Doc, we certainly will never forget you!

The rumours of a failed physical were false... it was waiting on approval from Bud Selig for the $6M the Jays were sending to the Phillies.

Halladay hasn't seen the post season once in his entire career as a Blue Jay. He's arguably the best pitcher in the majors. I'd wanna get outta there too if this club was not serious about making the post season.
